It's taken me a bit of time, but at last I have found the bullaun stone at Rathmichael. It's also taken a bit of help from a megalithomania visitor who had a chance meeting with someone who showed her the stone! I don't know how long it would have taken me without this information, so big thanks go to AQ and the man she met.

This is the only site I went to this week, as I've not been well for the last week or so and I really didn't want to risk a long journey today. Hopefully I will get out and do a good trip next weekend.

Today was another day of mainly rather than seeing lots of sites. As many of you know Iike to investigate areas around prominent hils and this is what I was doing today. Just north of Longford town Corn Hill rises up out of the plain and can be seen from miles around, despite not being all that big. It is made more obvious by the huge transmitter that stands at its highest point.

There was no real plan to the joureny except for climbing Corn Hill, so after visiting the cairns on the top of the hill I spent some time travelling around its vicinity looking at it from every angle. The shape of the hill is very like Knocknarea and Knockshee in Sligo and it's hard to see it in any other light. Like these two magnificent hills Corn Hill must have been the centre of activity in this region for a very long time.

On the way back I took the chance to stop by an old favourite of mine near Granard and several standing stones.

This weekend wasn't about visiting stones. My wife and I went for a nice quiet weekend away in a swank hotel in Killarney, but on the way back I did manage to drag her to a handful of sites. One we'd both been to before, but the others were new to me and have been on my hit list for quite some time.
