Welcome to the Community Portal!

The community portal is the central place to find out what's happening on Wikipedia. Learn what tasks need to be done, and get or post news about recent events or current activities. The community bulletin board below is provided for general announcements, while more specific sections are provided further below for collaborations updates, new featured content, things to do, ongoing projects, etc. See also the Signpost, Wikipedia's internal newspaper, providing a weekly summary of major developments.

For technical discussions, assistance, policy, proposals, and other news, see: Village pump - Wikipedia's discussion forums.

Post your Wikipedia-related news here. A significant event has taken place? You completed a new portal? A new project has been created, or an old one is undertaking a new initiative? There's a new notice board, proposal, discussion, department, article drive, etc.? Tell us about it...

  • Google has a new toolbar with a novel feature which allows owners of websites to add their own search buttons to the toolbar. For instance, if Wikipedia were to develop such a button, users who would customize their toolbar with the Wikipedia button would be able to search Wikipedia from the Google toolbar. I think this is something which should be done. Many providers have already added buttons for their sites, and they feature on the add-ons page for the new Google toolbar. • New portal: U.S. Roads. Portal is dedicated to interstate, federal, and state/territorial roads of the United States.
  • New Portal: Olympics. Please help construct this page!
  • There is a new portal, the Human rights Portal. We need users willing to contribute in field of Human rights.
  • The Wikipedia:WikiProject Poker Wikiproject has been active for about a week now. We welcome any new members that can help us complete our uncompleted tasks.
  • The Paris Streets Wikiproject is just ready to go - searchable street database (with infobox code generator) and experimental 'map and floating point' infobox is finally done and operational. Where do you live, where have you visited? Come share!
  • The Paris Portal has been launched, but is in need of expansion. Categories concerning Paris (needed by the Portal) are in great need of sorting and organisation - this last task could use some 'tried hands'.
  • The Help Project needs your help. We are about to undertake the monumental task of cleaning up the Wikipedia namespace, including a redesign of Wikipedia's help system. What were we thinking? Helllllllp!
  • The Main Page redesign is coming along nicely. The open-editing session, during which the design can be refined, will last until February 18 inclusive. After that, testing will be done on the draft to fix bugs that occur with different computers. The final election between this draft and the current Main Page will be held starting on March first and will continue for three weeks.

Active collaborations

In order to improve the quality of articles which are short or lacking in detail, Wikipedia's community takes part in collaborations to expand articles.

Collaboration of the week

Help edit Aeronautics, Wikipedia's current collaboration of the week! Please help to bring it up to featured article standard.

Aeronautics is the science involved with the study, design, and manufacture of apparatuses capable of flight.

You can still help with last week's articles, Andes (see improvements), or help pick next week's article.

Article Improvement Drive

Improve Frog, the present incumbent at the Article Improvement Drive. The Article Improvement Drive works on a non-stub article that needs a lot of help before reaching featured-article standard.

Frog is the common name for amphibians in the order Anura. Adult frogs are characterised by long hindlegs, a short body, webbed digits, protruding eyes and the absence of a tail. A distinction based on appearance is often made between frogs and toads, but this has no scientific basis. The only family exclusively given the common name "toad" is Bufonidae, but many species from various other families are also called "toads". "True frogs" are of the family Ranidae.

Most frogs have a semi-aquatic lifestyle, and their larvae, called tadpoles, have gills and develop in water. Some frogs are poisonous and have warning colouration; others are well camouflaged. Their distribution ranges from tropic to subarctic regions, with most of the approximately 5250 described species found in tropical rainforest.

You can still help with last week's article, Sofia (see improvements), or help pick next week's article.
