You receive a "The event log file is corrupt" error

You receive a "The event log file is corrupt" error on a computer that is running Windows Server 2003 SP1, an x64-based version of Windows Server 2003, or Windows XP Professional x64 Edition:

We saw this little one rear it's head during one of the testings and the only way to fix it then was to swap nic cards..not exactly the greatest solution.

Looks like now they have a hotfix.

(Remember hotfixes can obtained for free with a call to Microsoft)

What does and does not apply?

Going through the KB articles and blogs tonight (uh doesn't everyone read KB articles for fun?) and there was something that I noticed that I thought I should point out....

First off...while I consider this just taken for granted ..sometimes it's not .....as was pointed out on a recent blog post.  Many times people ask if "fill in the blank" is supported on SBS.  And we say with a "well of course it is you twit" kind of superior air in our voice as we in SBSland assure everyone that we can just install the same service packs and hotfixes as our big brother servers that are Standard OSs. Service packs for the parts of SBS, i.e. Windows Server, Exchange Server, Sharepoint, SQL server,  etc... etc.... are fully supported and just fine on SBS itself.

Seeing a new batch of KB articles start to occur reminded me that we're going to have to couch our "you twits" in the future as there will be KBs coming out that don't pertain to us.

This one... http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=911604 for example, will not, as the platform it's on is Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition (32-bit x86) and that's not us.  But a KB that lists Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition (32-bit x86) like  http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=908911 will apply to us as that's what we still are under the hood.

Hmmm.... wonder if the "Fresno" (1)  version of Windows Server has any of it's own KB's?

(1) The Windows Server for Small Business, a 15 user base OS that is just our core OS that I refer to as the "Fresno" version....aka "For REally Small NetwOrks".... get it?

Issues with changing passwords through Remote Web Workplace Feature?

Users receive a "The user name or password is incorrect" error message if they try to connect to a SBS 2003-based computer by using the Remote Web Workplace feature:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=892078

If a user tries to connect to a Microsoft Windows Small Business Server (SBS) 2003-based computer by using the Remote Web Workplace feature, the user receives the following error message:
The user name or password is incorrect. Verify that CAPS LOCK is not on, and then retype the current user name and password. If you receive this message again, contact your system administrator to ensure that you have the correct permissions to use the Remote Web Workplace.
This symptom occurs if the following conditions are true:
1. When the user tries to connect, the user receives a prompt to change their password.
2. The user types the correct original password, types the new password, and then clicks OK.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
The user's account has the "User must change password at next logon" feature enabled.
The NetBIOS domain name does not match the left side of the DNS domain name. For example, the DNS domain name is "example.local" and the NetBIOS domain name is not "example."

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do not try to connect to your SBS 2003-based computer by using the Remote Web Workplace feature after you enable the "User must change password at next logon" feature. Instead, use Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA) to change the password.

There is a problem with how the POP3 connector processes certain messages downloaded from a POP3 server. This problem could result in the POP3 connector accidentally re-sending certain messages to recipients who are not part of the SBS server e-mail domain.
This may happen only in the cases where the POP3 connector is used to download mail from an external POP account. Customers using Exchange to host their mail internally will not experience this problem. This update resolves this issue.
All SBS customers are encouraged to install this update.
