Do you remember the early days of software development? I can recall working on teams where we had no source control, no project management, and no process whatsoever. It is a wonder that we ever accomplished anything. In the summer of 1998 I went to a training class on UML and the Rational Unified Process. After a week of learning I came away with some tools to put into place that would change everything. Unfortunately our organization wasn’t as successful as others in implementing this process for building software. Now the man who started it all Dr. Ivar Jacobson has introduced a new, friendlier and lighter process known as the Essential Unified Process.
