ABC clerk pleads guilty

STAFF
A former sales clerk at the Anglican Book Centre in Toronto, Daniel Bishop, pleaded guilty to one charge of defrauding the nationally known bookstore and was sentenced at Ontario Court of Justice on Jan. 22 to three years probation and ordered to pay restitution of $70,000.
He was also given a conditional sentence of 729 days by Mr. Justice Edward F. Ormston.
Finance officials at the Anglican church's national office, which houses the bookstore, are continuing a forensic audit to confirm the exact amount Mr. Bishop stole, said General Synod treasurer Jim Cullen. "We know that it was at least $10,000 from last July 13 back to the beginning of May," he said.
Mr. Bishop, 51, was arrested at work July 13, 2001. He had worked at the bookstore for eight years, most recently at the cash register.
