YES! BRIGHTON FRIDAY!Ahoy there, Serena-Maneesh!18 May 2006 | |||
Apparently there's going to be turbulent weather in Brighton tomorrow, with 65 MPH winds buffeting the shore and that pile of rust that marks the pier no-one knows what to do with. What better way to see Serena-Maneesh, then?
Already a noisy bunch on record, Serena-Maneesh are proundly loud and indecently heavy when you catch them live, something that captures their sense of the aggressive sublime rising beyond gentle pastoral to ever greater effect. So in advance of their PlayLouder gig at the Great Escape in Brighton tomorrow night, we dropped Emil Nikolaisen a line to say hullo... Hullo Serena-Maneesh, and how are you today? "Enjoying coffee made in a beat up Evian bottle and typing furiously on the keyboard getting final preparation done for tour while listening to people's ideas of my songs on the computer." Are you enjoying the turn of the season? "More than I enjoy the death of the season." What has been your fondest memory of 2006 so far? "Standing above San Francisco at the lookout tower, with the air suffused with ecalyptus trees almost chokingly strong, watching the sun die in a spectacular funeral over the still ocean, then turning down to the long steep streets and jumping in a cab to watch the buildings become blurs as we push away over to Mission to sample the Mexican food." Have you visited Brighton before? And if not, what are you most looking forward to seeing? "Never. I heard something about a Dolphin show." Is there a place beside the seaside that holds a particularly special place in your heart? "We are spoilt for choice in Norway, the land is basically held up by the sea and the beaches, mountains and fjords are truly breathtaking." What's your ambition for the rest of the year? "To meet all of our 'friends' on myspace page at a Serena concert." Well hopefully there'll be plenty there Friday night at the Pressure Point, my good man. Ignore Xfm, who're saying everything kicks off at 1am, PlayLouder's party starts at midnight, runs till late, and of course we've got Ladyfuzz and Untitled Musical Project playing as well. Oh, and get a Serena-Maneesh podcast of the video for 'Drain Cosmetics' here. Gales at the seaside are amazing - TALK! |
