Flexible working: Do your best work...

I presented the keynote speech at the Women in Technology networking event last night.  There were over 200 women present to talk about flexible working.  So I talked about my cats and my smartphone and how mobility allows me to work wherever I want, whenever I want - the true flexible lifestyle.  I was amazed at how few other women felt that they would be allowed to do flexible working, either part time, or fulltime, with flexibility in where and when they work.  Some of the big companies, Sun, Merrill Lynch, Lehmans, Accenture, IBM for example, had really good policies in place for flexiblity, but there were so many other companies who were really lagging behind in this area.  Maybe they need to have a look at this article on how we've implemented flexi time for all employees - not just women.  Maggie did an excellent job in mobilising so many great speakers for the panel, i met some amazing women and some totally inspiring people

I had so many people to talk to after the customer panel ended that it took me 20 minutes to get to the bar; I've made some excellent contacts (and wine bar buddies) too at the event.  I'll certainly be going to the next networking meeting to listen to other inspiring speakers (your turn next Sarah), and to sit a bit closer to the refreshments area next time...
