Floyd A. "Baldy" Harper was founder of the Institute for Humane Studies, and for two decades, 1950-70, "one of the most important figures in the anarcho-capitalist wing of libertarianism". [1] (http://www.lewrockwell.com/north/north46.html)

He started his career as Professor of Marketing at Cornell University. From there he helped start up the Foundation for Economic Education, where he was Economist from 1946. In 1958 he was sacked, and went on to co-direct the William Volker Fund, supervising the publication of the Volker Fund's series in economics.

Sacked one more time in 1961, he took many of the staff and ideas of the Volker fund with him to found the Institute for Humane Studies, where he remained until his death in 1973.
