Exchange Server 2007 Scripting Contest

Activate the PowerShell – And Enter to Win a Trip to the Exchange Server 2007 Launch!

If you’re looking for the deal of a lifetime then you’ve come to the right place: write a one-line script for managing Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, and you’ll have a chance at winning a trip to – well, wherever the Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Launch extravaganza will be held. (The date and location have yet to be announced, but you can bet the launch will be held somewhere really cool.*)

Microsoft Exchange 2007 Scripting Contest

No, we weren’t kidding about the one-line script. The whole purpose of this contest is to demonstrate the power and ease-of-use of Windows PowerShell, the new command-line scripting technology that has become the standard for managing Exchange. What’s so good about Windows PowerShell? Well, how about the ability to disable a mailbox using a single command:

Disable-Mailbox <mailboxid>

Maybe you’d prefer a single command that sets mailbox quotas for all your users:

get-Mailbox | Set-Mailbox -UseDatabaseQuotaDefaults:$False-ProhibitSendReceiveQuota 100MB

You get the idea. This contest is designed to introduce people to Windows PowerShell, and to demonstrate how it can make your life easier. (Or at least how it can make your Exchange administration life easier.)

Not sure what a one-liner Exchange Server 2007 script might look like? Then take a peek at some of the sample scripts submitted by the Microsoft Exchange team.

Submit Your ScriptSubmit Your Script

As soon as you’ve got a script (or two or three: you can submit more than one entry) click here to start the submission process.

How Do I Enter?

That’s easy. Write a single-line script that manages some aspect of Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, then submit the script. Be sure to include a valid email address when submitting your entry; that email address is the only way we can contact you if you turn out to be the winner. The contest is open between now and September 30, 2006; shortly after the contest has closed each script will be judged on three points:

Single-line, functionality

Creativity

Usefulness

Note that if you have a script that is longer than one line and are dying to show it off, go ahead and submit it. Just remember that the judges tend to favor short, concise solutions.

At the end of the contest one lucky winner will earn a free trip to the Exchange Server 2007 launch.
