Quick catchup here: last week Amanda from RocketBoom (yes, it is okay to be wondering ‘uh, who’s that’ right now, as the majority of people have no idea what I’m talking about already, but a few thousand folks are already waiting for me to skip to the chase) got fired (here’s her account of the story and here’s some of his). She was quickly replaced (very funny link), but then her replacement was sacked too. Apparently they were supposed to relaunch this week.  It’s been a big topic of discussion for a lot of people, but I don’t get it.  This guy watched daily, and I guess it was probably somewhat entertaining, but here’s the thing I don’t get:

How can one person being fired from a freaking vlog cause the entire Web 2.0 world to care this much??? 

I did a Google Blog search for “Amanda fired” and “Dan Rather retired“.  Amanda won about 2:1.  The same search in Google has Rather ahead 6:1. 

Dan Rather had an impact on this country and the way we consume news.  We’ll see if Amanda’s impact will ever make it out of the long tail…
