Task Descriptions

Task Description of Duty Any Special Skills
Packet Prep (for Bag Stuffing) box movers and packet set-up; need strong able-bodied workers packet prep requires strength; involves lifting/moving and unpacking boxes
Bag Stuffing Sunday morning, July 2: packet stuffing; putting material into conference bags assembly line style involves standing/stuffing/shifting bags around etc.
Doctor Is In answer technical questions and assist with wireless problems experience in troubleshooting both MAC and PC computers and both Palm- and Windows-based handhelds
Fun Run Friday morning, July 7: at the event—greeting; giving directions, helping to pass out water; organizing people able to be outside in heat; good early morning personalities
Info Booth staffing (with others) of main information booth; answering questions; giving directions, etc. local people would be most helpful; comfortable with busy public interaction in a high-traffic location; quick learner; friendly and helpful orientation; some with high knowledge of local area.
Ask-me Stations answer questions; give directions, etc. Each Ask-me station will be equipped with an information reference packet able to work solo; good communication; comfortable with public interaction; good problem-solving skills; quick learner; veteran NECC attendees a plus.
International Activities assist coordinators in prep and set-up for International reception; assist at other international activities as needed multiple language is a plus, comfortable with public interaction
Kid's Camp Check-in and out check-in Camp enrollees and direct to buses; check-out – connect kids with parents and sign-out good with kids (6–12 yrs); would be great if same volunteer is assigned to am and pm shifts on a given day
Kid's Camp Chaperones be with kids all day and be responsible for watching over group (in addition to Kid's Camp staff); will be fed with group will be with kids all day and responsible for watching over part of the group (in addition to Kid's Camp staff); good kid skills.
Press Room (Media Work Room) greeting Press and assisting PR firm, Ulum Group, with hosting Press room comfortable with public interaction; experience with computers and applications
Presenters' World Host/Storage (program) acts as host to Presenters' World; greet presenters; help get their questions answered as needed; help keep room presentable; staffing the storage area in Presenters' World (designed for presenter's to store their stuff daily) – involves check-in/out process and acting as gatekeeper to storage area comfortable with public interaction; experience with computers and applications

Tech - Help (program)
act as in-room technical assistance for presenters using Presenters' World resources good tech skills on both MAC and PC; previous presenting experience
Playground Area Assistance assist Program Chair and presenters within this content area  
Posters Area Assistance assist Poster Co-Chairs and presenters within this content area  
Student Showcase Area Assistance assist Student Showcase Co-Chairs and presenters within this content area  
Social Events Greeters/Tickets Prep greeting attendees; taking/giving out tickets, Prep; program stuffing; seat drops, etc.

July 5–7, 2006

Those who've attended NECC in the past will notice a change from our usual program:
  • The main conference days will be Wednesday–Friday.
  • Workshops will be held Wednesday–Friday, both days and evenings. A limited number of workshops may be held preconference.
  • The Opening Reception is on the 4th of July! It'll be held at the San Diego Convention Center, a perfect location for viewing numerous fireworks displays over the water — be sure to bring the whole family!
Please keep this schedule in mind as you make your travel and hotel arrangements!
