NEARLY 17,000 ATTEND NECC 2005 IN PHILADELPHIA

Philadelphia (June 30, 2005) --- More than 16,800 educators and exhibit personnel attended the 26th Annual National Educational Computing Conference (NECC), held in Philadelphia, June 27 through 30, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

Presented by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE®), in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Association for Educational Communications & Technology (PAECT), attendees came from all over the United States and around the globe. They included teachers, administrators, library media specialists, technology coordinators, and teacher educators, as well as representatives from industry and government.

Conference highlights included:

* The largest educational technology event in the world, featuring 1,290 booths and 512 companies displaying hardware, software, educational and technical publishing, and equipment/services emphasizing the use of computers by students and education professionals

* A keynote address by Dr. David Weinberger, co-author of The Cluetrain Manifesto and a Fellow at Harvard's prestigious Berkman Institute for Internet & Society, described the quantum change in what it means to know and what it means to learn and teach.

* 12,430 registered attendees

* 4,440 exhibit personnel

* Nearly 300 concurrent sessions with dozens of additional showcases, galleries, and poster sessions

* 432 international attendees from approximately 46 nations

* 145 workshops with more than 4,000 tickets sold

* 138 registered journalists from around the globe attended NECC

* A fully open wireless network for all participants to use during the conference

* "Beamable" conference content presented for use with handheld PDAs.

DR. DAVID WEINBERGER, AUTHOR AND HARVARD FELLOW, IS KEYNOTE SPEAKER FOR 2005 NATIONAL EDUCATIONAL COMPUTING CONFERENCE

Washington, DC -- Dr. David Weinberger, author and Fellow at Harvard's prestigious Berkman Center for Internet and Society, will be the opening keynote speaker at the 26th Annual National Educational Computing Conference (NECC). The conference will be held June 27 through 30, 2005 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia.

The world's largest and most comprehensive educational technology event, NECC is presented by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE®) in cooperation this year with the Pennsylvania Association for Educational Communications and Technology (PAECT), and with additional support from the School District of Philadelphia.

Dr. David Weinberger is the author of "Small Pieces Loosely Joined," which has been called the first book to put the Internet in its deepest context. He is also a co-author of the bestseller "The Cluetrain Manifesto," a frequent commentator on National Public Radio's "All Things Considered," and has written for numerous publications including "The New York Times," "Harvard Business Review," "The Miami Herald," "The Boston Globe" and "Wired." Dr. Weinberger's keynote will be held at 5:45 p.m., Monday, June 27, at the convention center.

The NECC 2005 program also includes several other distinguished speakers.

The Thursday luncheon keynote features Marc Prensky, founder and CEO of Games2Train, discussing "Engage Me or Enrage Me: Educating Today's Digital Native Learners."

And on Tuesday, June 28, from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m., attendees are invited to choose their own keynote from three inspiring, engaging and thought-provoking speakers. These will include Deneen Frazier Bowen, educator and actress, presenting "The Natives are Restless," and noted futurist Joel Barker, discussing his new work on "Technological Ecosystems," and their potential for creating a positive future. The final choose-your-own keynote speaker will be announced in the coming weeks.

NECC is expected to draw nearly 20,000 teachers, teacher educators, administrators, library media specialists, technology coordinators, policy makers, industry representatives and exhibitors from around the globe. NECC 2005 will include more than 450 exhibits with the latest educational hardware and software, as well as local and national speakers, demonstrations, discussions and workshops. Exhibits and workshops offer attendees opportunities for hands-on experience with PK-20 technology products and services.

NATIONAL EDUCATIONAL COMPUTING CONFERENCE 2005 DATES AND LOCATION ANNOUNCED

Washington, DC -- The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE®) has announced that the 26th annual National Educational Computing Conference (NECC) will be held June 27 through 30, 2005, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia, Penn.

The premier national and international Ed Tech event, NECC 2005: "Digital Illuminations -- Sparking a Revolution in Learning," is presented by ISTE in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Association for Educational Communications & Technology. More than 18,000 teachers, teacher educators, technology coordinators, library media specialists, administrators, policy makers, industry representatives, and exhibitors from around the globe are expected to attend.

For more than a quarter century, NECC has provided K-20 education professionals with an annual forum to learn, exchange information and strategies, and survey advancements in the field of educational technology. Through hands-on and discussion-based workshops, lectures and interactive sessions, discussions with key industry speakers, and the largest vendor exhibition of its kind, NECC offers participants the unique opportunity to discover and share what they need to develop the appropriate use of technology in their classrooms, districts, and universities. ISTE involves more than 700 local, regional, and national volunteers in the event and strives to use the conference to broaden opportunities for world class professional development in the hosting region.
