Windows Live Local addin for Outlook

I really had high hopes for this.  What a fantastic idea.  Windows Live Local for Outlook.  Just the thing to add maps and directions to my meeting requests.  One of the most useful things is that I'll now be able to calculate the travel distance between the start location and my appointment location and then adjust my departure time based on the estimated travel time.

Well I tried to install it onto my Outlook 2007 and it failed.  GRRRR! It only works with Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2000.  I supose I'll have to do a registry hack to get this installed at all and have a play with it (or go back to using Outlook 2003 on my main machine...no chance!)

Come on guys.  This is a new and funky beta product which adds in to Outlook.  Can't it work with another beta product (Outlook 2007)?  It's only a small change to the beta install program.  So if you've actually managed to install it - let me know if its any good, and worth the tweaks to this machine?  I'd love to know...

You need to be running as Admin ( seems silly to me )to use it & Office products 2000 & 2003, need to be in U.S English language too? why not UK English.

I'll install it on Office 2007 when ( and only when ) I can use it as LUA in UK English.

Works as US or UK English for definite although "US English" is an oxymoron. Nice product, thanks for the heads up EB.

It's a great tool I have a couple of comments though:
I'd like to change the default location from the US to  to the UK but can't find how to do so,  if it picked up my regional settings to determine my default location that would be great. I'm not keen on the fact that if it finds a location it thinks matches it will change your meeting location without an option to deny this,  the only way back seems to be to exit the appointment and do not save any changes. Apart from these minor niggles it's a great tool maybe we'll get the tweaks in the final release?

So you've all managed to install it on Outlook 2003 then?  Anyone had a go at installing it with Outlook 2007 yet?
If so - what do you think?

hiya,
As they say there is always one ... and in this case it's me.

Several months ago I decided that running Windows Vista within a VPC was not really going to achieve anything due to the limited hardware emulations.

So being someone who wants to know the answers, I decided to bite the bullet and archived my data from the C:\ drive to another one that I had just installed, & then promptly installed Vista x64.

A couple of weeks ago Vista 5384.4 was released and promptly installed upon my machine, along with Office 2007 B2.

Over the past week or so I've been complaining that I am unable to validate my software but have been unable to obtain support from Microsoft telephone based support upon the basis that I am operating beta software; and they state that I must obtain support from the relevant software support team.

Today I have followed the link for the download of "Windows live local add-in for Microsoft Office Outlook (Beta)" -
URI .. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=7A0BCE98-EAB4-40A3-B7EC-43C09D6AE8CB&displaylang=en ..
and click upon the "continue" validation recommended radio button, which then takes me to the validation page where select "yeas please validate office ..", and then continue

This then launches another page, where I am invited to install an ActiveX controller, (why are we still doing this after highlighting vulnerabilities surrounding ActiveX ?).

Having installed the ActiveX controller I am then asked to click "Continue" where I am directed to another web page, which is entitled "Why didn't my Machine Complete Fail?"
with the code [0x8018111] appearing in the top right hand corner.

Initially I was under the belief that I might just be wrong, and checked the relevant communictions ports, and that I had also placed "micirosoft.com" within the trusted sites, and being able to download other software add-ins; I can almost rule this out as an issue. Sadly this leaves me with the thought that maybe somewhere in the transition from "closed Beta Group", to "Public Beta" someone has failed to include Office 2007 Beta as authentic within the validation process.

Whilst this shortsightedness will inevitably lead to Microsoft receiving a little negative press; it certainly provides more of an annoyance factor with the IT Pros

Could someone else please let me know if they are also experiencing difficulties with the validation of software when using both the latest Vista build and Office 2007.

i would also be grateful if anyone could please confirm whether they have found any problems whilst running Office 2007 upon Vista x64; and whether you have noticed if it's running in compatability mode ?

Grateful for your help

Arthur

Arthur> I've replicated the problem on my x32 system - exactly the same - very frustrating ;-(

Live Local Beta is only compatible, at present, with Outlook 2000 / 2003. The download title is implying that the Live Local is a beta... not that it is to be installed in Outlook beta. Unfortunately, the drive behind beta technology for add-ins is centered on improving products currently on the market. Once 2007 hits commercial release, a compatible Live Local will be produced.
