How Do I... in Office SharePoint Server 2007

What's New for Developers in Office SharePoint Server 2007

Searching in Office SharePoint Server 2007

This is a test to post not only test, but also images too…

Let me tell you about IE 7, and how you can see the File menu bar from that IE version.

One you had an IE window opened; it will look like this…

So, what you can do to see the File, Edit etc menu options like If you were using an IE lower version.

You can click at the same time the “Alt” key and the one that is exactly on the left side from the key with the number “1” on it.

And If you want to hide the menu bar again you can click the “Esc” key.

Well, it seems that automatically images uploading is not working at 100% so Im going to copy an image about what I was writing in Word 2007, so you can understand the text I just wrote on this post.

PostingImagesFromWord2007

Im not sure If there's a way to do it automatically, but this was just a try...

Now, I tryed to post some other text with an image on it, but it didn't published succesfully, I think its related to this configuration.

ConfigureImagesUploadPosting

But unfortunately I haven't configure it yet...Does anyone?

Hi everyone, I’m typing right know this text on my Microsoft Office 2007 beta 2 installation. I’m going to publish it on my SharePoint Blog to see how it looks like.

Cheers!

This was finally posted to my Blog, but what did I need to do this, well let me show you step by step...

Another way to publish a post from Word 2007 Beta 2, instead using the file->Publish-To Blog option. I mean, adding a shortcut to your File Menu...

First of all, you should enter into your Microsoft Office Word 2007 beta 2, and you will notice the menu looks like this.

BloggingFromWord2007-1

By default is not enable the Blog publish option, so you should add to the ribbon doing right clic n it at the right side and select Customize Quick Access Toolbar, you should see something like this.

BloggingFromWord2007-2

After choosing that option, it will show show a quick window when you can choose what to add to your ribbon.

BloggingFromWord2007-3

You should choose TBD and add it to the right column that contain the menu options available for you.

Then you will see the new button added to your file menu options.

BloggingFromWord2007-4

What shall we do after that?, yeah, you're right...We can clic on it, and after that we will have a new Word document ready for write a post. But we will need to configure an account to say Word what kind or type of Blog provider you will use to publish your post, so we need to register it. A small window will appears in front of us...

BloggingFromWord2007-5

Ok, we're doing well?, lets continue...

We should specify the Blog provider, (in my case I will select Comunity Server).

BloggingFromWord2007-6

After selecting the Provider (If you're not sure about the provider you are working with, you can verify this in the link that this window shows you).

Now we need to specify the URL and the username and password...In my case I will write my own username and password, so you should write yours...and the same for yours Blog Post URL.

BloggingFromWord2007-7

Remember that there are some Blog providers still not supported for the Office 2007 Beta 2, this ones appear if you clic on the Help me fill out this section link.

So, we'll see a confirmation window.

BloggingFromWord2007-8

Ok, so we are allready connected to the Blog provider, and also our text in Word.

BloggingFromWord2007-9

At this step as you can see, I decided not to finally publish the post, but to make a Draft, to see first what was going to happend, so, I would need to accept this Drafts directly from my SharePoint Blog, so the post will be public for everyone, but If you choose to publish directly, you won't need to aprove any draft, It will be posted automatically.

Ok, then well need to type our username and password (If we don't want Word remember it).

BloggingFromWord2007--10

Ok, well after this steps, the post will be published...

BloggingFromWord2007--11

Finally you will see your text published on your Blog, as you can see the begining of this post.

I've been working with an issue about creating meeting workspaces. When I tryed to create a meeting workspace (basic, social, etc), I've got this error.

Error Creating New Meeting Workspace Site

After doing some research without any results, finally with some help from the Microsoft guys, we realized that in some way the ONET.XML even do it has the same size like other ONET.XML file in other SharePoint Box, from the same path (\TEMPLATE\1033\MPS\XML), were customized or in some way changed...So we only had to copy the original XML files that's. thanks Sridhar Raghunthan and Shailesh Palwankar, for the support.

Well, I hope this help you in future issues related to this message Exception from HRESULT:  0x81070215.

Great WebCasts where Bill Gates shows some great stuff abour MOSS 2007!

A few days ago, I was installing SP2 for a Small SharePoint 2003 Server Farm.

I had read a few known issues from Bill's Blog like these:

And also from www.kbalerts.com:

But after applyed the SP, i run in some strange issue that was not in the previous articles I had read before...

This one was about Portal Search not working properly...was so strange...So, after trying a lot of things, like uninstalling the Frame Work 2.0 (that has some problems with SPS 2003), checking Server configuration....and so many things...but nothing, the search was still not working...

When we tryed to search some word as "sharepoint"....

ErrPortalSearch

We didn't have any results, and the same happend for the links at the left side of the Search Page (that links came from the Search WebPart) there wre not link at all...So, after some work with Microsoft guys, we look the Search.aspx page in its design mode, and we realized that the Search WebPart was gone!, so we import the Search WebPart again to the Search.aspx page, and finally the Search results were back!!, a simpe think like that cost us like a week to understand what the issue was, so I would like to share with you this, If you install Service Pack 2 for SharePoint Portal Server 2003 and suddenly your Search stops showing results, you should look at this first, and then try other things....

Its here!, the new version of the Microsoft SharePoint Community Site.

First of all, Don Campbell publihsed in his blog an interesting point of wie about what is councern for the new wave of Officce 2007.

clic on it to view the larger...

It has a few intesting link resources to specific point of all this movement that is happening in Microsoft, for more info you could go here...

And what about Microsoft Office 2007, well, there are lot of features to watch...

    The Ribbon

    Ribbon in Microsoft Word 2007

"The traditional menus and toolbars have been replaced by the Ribbon. Presented graphically, the Ribbon displays the commands that are most relevant for each of the task areas in Microsoft Microsoft Office Word, PowerPoint, Excel, or Access. For example, Word's Ribbon is organized into tabs for writing, inserting, page layout, working with references, doing mailings, and reviewing documents. Excel has a similar set of tabs that make sense for spreadsheet work: creating worksheets, inserting objects like charts and graphics, page layout, working with formulas, managing data, and reviewing. The Ribbon simplifies accessing application features because they organize the commands in a way that corresponds directly to the tasks people perform in these applications." For more info...

    Contextual Tabs

    Picture Tools Contextual Tab

"Certain sets of commands are only relevant when objects of a particular type are being edited. For example, the commands for editing a chart in Excel are not relevant until a chart appears in a spreadsheet and the user is focusing on modifying it. In current versions of Microsoft Microsoft Office, these commands can be difficult to find or become elusive. In the next release of Excel, clicking on a chart causes a Contextual Tab to appear with commands that are relevant for chart editing right next to the other tabs of the Ribbon in Excel. These Contextual Tabs only appear when they are needed and make it much easier to find and use the commands needed for the operation at hand while making it easy to switch back to working on your document." And of course, what about Blogging With Microsoft Microsoft Office Word 2007!, well Joe Friend has an interesting post on his Blog...

The Microsoft Collaboration Tool Team just published on his Blog about some other cool feature Microsoft Collaboration Tool, will have in the vNext version, The Business Data Catalog. Here is some info from the Oficial Team Blog...

    Business Data Catalog

While the Program Managers are busy trying to get Beta 2 done, I thought I would post a blog entry about one of my favorite new features of Microsoft Office Microsoft Collaboration Tool Server 2007: the Business Data Catalog (BDC), which enables integration with LOB and other applications by connecting via Web services or ADO.NET interfaces and displaying business data on the portal without any coding.

    Overview

The BDC is essentially a catalog of business applications that are of interest to Microsoft Collaboration Tool Server 2007 users, and it bridges the gap between the portal and business applications by bringing in key data from various applications to Microsoft Collaboration Tool sites, lists, search, and user profiles. The BDC is the key infrastructural component around which most of the other business data features of Microsoft Collaboration Tool Server 2007 are built. Administrators can register business applications in the BDC, after which the data in the application is immediately available to Microsoft Collaboration Tool through the business data features described below. A key requirement for each registered business application is an XML-based metadata model that describes the application programming interfaces (API) of the application or the schema of the database that maps to business objects (e.g. customer) and properties (e.g. name) that a Microsoft Collaboration Tool user can understand. These metadata models can be easily created by DBAs or database developers.

    Business Data Web Parts

Microsoft Collaboration Tool Server 2007 ships with four out-of-the-box Business Data Web Parts: Business Data List, Business Data Items, Business Data Related List, and Business Data Actions. These Web Parts rely on the Business Data Catalog, and their main purpose is to display business data in a portal application without the need for any programming. Moreover, these Web Parts are generic and can show any type of data (entity) registered in the Business Data Catalog.

These Web Parts support Web Part Connections, which enable Master-Detail types of data display – again, without any programming. For example, you can display customers and their details using the BusinessDataList and BusinessDataItems Web Parts.

Table 1 provides a brief description of the Business Data Web Parts.

    Web Part

    Description

    Business Data List

    Web Part

Displays a list of entity instances from a business application registered in the Business Data Catalog. For example, you can use a Business Data List Web Part to display all the customers or orders from the AdventureWorksDW database.

    Business Data Items

    Web Part

Displays the details of an entity instance from a business application. For example, you can use a Business Data Items Web Part to display the details of a particular customer or order from the AdventureWorksDW database.

    Business Data Related List

    Web Part

Displays a list of related entity instances from a business application. For example, you can use a Business Data Related List Web Part to display all the orders for a particular customer from the AdventureWorksDW database.

    Business Data Actions

    Web Part

Displays a list of actions associated with an entity as defined in the Business Data Catalog. For example, you can use a Business Data Actions Web Part to display all the actions that portal users can perform on the Customer entity. Some examples of these actions are to send e-mail to a customer or edit the address of a customer.

Figure 1 shows a Business Data List Web Part.

Figure 1: A Business Data List Web Part shows the list of products

Figure 2 shows a Business Data Items Web Part.

Figure 2: A Business Data Item Web Part shows the details of a product

    Business Data in Lists

Windows Microsoft Collaboration Tool Services V3 provides custom field types. Microsoft Collaboration Tool Server 2007 leverages this feature to provide a new field type called Business Data that is available to all lists in Microsoft Collaboration Tool Server 2007. The Business Data field type enables users to add data from business applications registered in the Business Data Catalog to any Microsoft Collaboration Tool list. For example, in your RFP (Request for Proposal) Document Library, you can add a Business Data column to the document properties that specifies the customer who issued the RFP. This enables users to view the customer’s details and perform actions associated with them from within the Document Library.

Figure 3 shows a Business Data column in a list.

Figure 3: A list with a Business Data column, “Product” Business Data Actions

    Business Data Actions

You can define actions for each entity in the Business Data Catalog. Some examples of actions for a customer entity are to send e-mail to a customer or to edit the address of a customer. Business Data Catalog implements actions as links that allow you to navigate to a URL directly from the page where the entity or Business Data column is displayed. For example, these links can open Web pages, display the native graphical user interfaces (GUI) of line-of-business applications, and launch Microsoft® Microsoft Office InfoPath® forms.

Figure 4 shows a Business Data action inside a Business Data List Web Part.
