Why do I still get alerts after putting a computer in maintenance mode?
When a computer is put into maintenance mode, the database and the management server are updated immediately.  At that point, any server side responses including notification rules will not run.  The agent will be polling the MS on its polling interval (default = 5 min.) as usual looking for configuration updates.  Until the agent makes a configuration update, it will be unaware that it should be in maintenance.  It will continue to generate alerts and run responses until it gets a configuration update.  So - on average, by default an agent will continue to generate alerts for 2.5 minutes after being put into maintenance mode.  Similarly, on the flip side when an agent is taken out of maintenance mode, on average it will be 2.5 minutes before it starts to generate alerts and run responses again.

Forgive me if I misunderstand the way MOM works, and for my pedantry, but isn't the default polling time form the agent to the Management Server(MS) 1 minute. In an environment with a single management server, there should only be a 30 second delay on average. In an environment with multiple servers this would be extended to 3 minutes if the client was put in maintenance mode by a connection through to a system that wasn't its primary MS.

It would be really awesome if a server with the MOM Agent on it would automatically go into maintenance mode when I choose my shutdown or reboot "reason". Or maybe if the OS had a checkbox.  We get alerts all the time because people "forget" to put a server in maintenace mode before rebooting.  It can be a hassle to open the OPs console or run a script to do that.  This comment may be a little off topic but the post reminded me of this.

What if notifications are still being sent beyond the 5 minute interval?   I cannot seem stop notifications from alerts when servers are placed into maintenance mode.  I am running MOM 2005 Sp1 - is there anything else that can be checked?

You pointed a customer to an article about automatically putting agents into Maintenance mode when you reboot a server if someone forgets to do so. Is there an article that explains how to do this and then disable maintenance mode when the server comes back online?
