Personnel Announcement
President George W. Bush today announced his intention to nominate one
individual and designate one individual to serve in his
Administration: The President intends to nominate R. Thomas Weimer, of
Colorado, to be Assistant Secretary of the Interior (Policy, Management
and Budget). Mr. Weimer currently serves as Principal Deputy Assistant
Secretary for Water and Science at the Department of the Interior. He
previously worked in the Office of Federal Government Relations for the
University of California as Legislative Director for National
Laboratory Affairs. Earlier in his career, Mr. Weimer served as
Subcommittee Staff Director for the U.S. House of Representatives
Committee on Science. He received his bachelor's degree and first
master's degree from Harvey Mudd College and his second master's degree
from the University of Washington. The President intends to designate
David A. Sampson, of Texas, to be Acting Deputy Secretary of Commerce.
