The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Foundation)
is the central, self-governing research funding organisation
that promotes research at universities and other publicly
financed research institutions in Germany.
The DFG serves all branches of science and the humanities
by funding research projects and facilitating cooperation
among researchers.
DFG Receives 261 Draft Proposals for the Second Round of the Excellence Initiative
(20 September 06) German universities have submitted 261 draft proposals competing for funding in the second round of the Excellence Initiative. By the deadline on 15th September, the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) had received 123 draft proposals for excellence clusters, 118 for graduate schools and 20 for development concepts. The draft proposals were submitted by 70 universities from throughout Germany. The main scientific disciplines, including humanities and social sciences, life sciences, natural sciences and engineering sciences, are all equally represented.
Fourth Call for Proposals for the EURYI Award
(01 September 06) The fourth call for proposals has been announced for the European Young Investigator (EURYI) Award. The EURYI Award enables and encourages outstanding young researchers from all over the world to pursue their research careers in Europe. The deadline for submission is 30 November 2006.
Initial Decisions Reached on the Excellence Initiative
(27 January 06) The Joint Commission of the DFG and the German
Science Council has announced that a total of 36 universities
will be invited to submit full proposals for graduate schools,
clusters of excellence and institutional strategies to promote
top-level university research. The proposal deadline is 20
April 2006.
