Saint Francis Seminary was founded in 1845 and is operated by the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. The seminary offers the following programs:

The College Program is an undergraduate residence program for candidates for the priesthood while attending local universities.

The Continuing Formation for Clergy staff members oversee the ongoing formation of priests, and permanent deacons. This office sponsors programs and retreats, publicizes local and national formation opportunities, implements the priests' sabbatical policy, coordinates preparation for the granting of additional faculties to deacons, and oversees the archdiocesan Continuing Formation Fund.

The Deacon Formation Program is four-year, biweekly Saturday program of academic, pastoral and spiritual formation. This non-degreed, non-credit bearing program offers a comprehensive, multi-cultural approach to basic ministry preparation. The Permanent Diaconate Candidate Wives Program prepares spouses for the experience of diaconate in their married and family lives.

The Lay Formation Program is a comprehensive graduate-level program of academic, pastoral and spiritual formation for ecclesial lay ministry. Those preparing for non-ordained ministries and those studying for the priesthood have participated side-by-side in classes, liturgies and community events. A four-year, non-credit program offering basic ministry preparation, including theological, pastoral, and spiritual formation is offered as well. Continuing formation for lay ministers is coordinated by the Lay Formation Program staff.

The Vocations Office supports parish personnel in the identification, encouragement, and invitation of qualified candidates to serve as parish priests within the archdiocese. Staff members provide supportive services to parish vocation teams and committees and helps young men and women in the discernment of a priestly or religious vocation. In collaboration with the Vocation Ministers of the Milwaukee Archdiocese (VMMA), staff members participate in vocation education and awareness programs for priesthood and religious life.
