ABC TV Affiliates Christmas Eve Program
In July, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) Communications Office contacted the Archdiocese of Milwaukee about the possibility of producing an Advent/Christmas Cathedral event that would be made available to ABC TV affiliates throughout the United States for airing on Christmas Eve. We have accepted this opportunity and have begun planning. Parish choirs from the Archdiocese of Milwaukee will be included in this TV event.
Three times during this hour-long presentation, an Assembly will be required. The planning team envisions that this Assembly sings three traditional Advent/Christmas hymns, in four-part harmony. If you direct a children’s choir, they too are invited. We will send to you this music well in advance of the taping of the program. Registration, with accurate numbers of a well-balanced SATB adult ensemble, or children’s voices, is essential and required. Please discuss this with your parish musicians and register their participation.
If you direct a choir that has a cultural heritage, i.e., specific cultural dress, it would be wonderful to have those choirs in attendance in their traditional attire. We are attempting not only to highlight excellent music, but also to visually highlight the multi-cultural heritage of our Archdiocese of Milwaukee.
Pre-registered choirs will need to be at the Cathedral on Wednesday, 29 November from 6 PM – 9 PM for rehearsal and videotaping. After the event is broadcast, a copy of the program on DVD will be sent to each participating choir. It may be copied and distributed without copyright violation.
Please register your choir members with names and voice parts, keeping in mind that it must be a balanced adult SATB ensemble or children’s voices, as soon as possible. Please register by completing the attached form and faxing it back to 414.769.3327.
