April 06, 2006: Parallels releases a public Beta version of Parallels Workstation for Mac OS X. Parallels Workstation allows you to install and run any off-the-shelf Linux distribution concurrently with Mac OS X in a virtual machine environment. It uses hardware extensions present in the Core Duo and Core Solo chips to acchieve near-native speed. (Note that there are Open Source alternatives, like Xen which work on the Mactels and also utilize Vanderpool Technology (VT) in the processors to achieve near-native performance)

To my knowledge Xen cannot run Mac OS X, so it is not an alternative to Parallels or QEMU. Chrisp

April 05, 2006: Apple releases a Public Beta of Boot Camp, its own solution to dual-boot Windows XP on Intel Macs. The firmware updates that go with Boot Camp add a BIOS emulation layer (CSM, Compatibility Support Module) to the previously legacy-free EFI firmware. The implications for Linux on Intel Macs are still being evaluated.
