MELT BONANZAPatti Smith's festival shapes up29 Apr 2005 | |||||||||||
As we told you a wee while back, Patti Smith is to curate this year's Meltdown festival on the South Bank, London. And the first details have begun to emerge...
Patti Smith seems to be taking a pretty hands on approach, and will be appearing in some form or other at most of the events. The festival kicks off on Friday, June 17th with a performance by Yoko Ono - here's hoping she doesn't bring Vincent Gallo along this time. The next night will be a called Songs 0f Innocence - Protest Songs and Lullabies, and will feature Smith, Sinead O'Connor, Beth Orton and Kristen Hersh. We read this next bit as The Coral feat. Patti Smith and Kevin Shields, and were taken aback that two heroes should stoop so low. But it's actually a project called The Coral Sea. We imagine it will be noisy. Smith is also holding two tribute nights, one to Bertolt Brecht that will feature herself, Marc Almond, Neil Finn, Antony and the Johnsons, Dresden Dolls and the London Sinfonietta. More wibbly will be a Hendrix tribute, with Jeff Beck, Flea and John Frusciante all playing. More stuff's to be announced, of course, and tickets go on sale next Thursday, May 5th Will John McEnroe play air guitar on his racquet at the Hendrix one? - TALK! |
