Overview

The Employee Absence Request and Vacation Schedule Management application for Windows SharePoint Services provides a central place for managers and employees to see when team members will be out of office, make vacation requests, and find links to individual job sites so a co-worker can easily cover for someone while they are out.

Instructions

To install this download:

Note: To complete the following installation, you must have Administrator rights to both the root of the Windows SharePoint Server and to the server on which it is installed.
  1. Download the file by clicking the Download button (above) and saving the file to your server.
  2. Double-click the program file on your hard disk to extract the template files to a location on the server.
  3. Open the top-level Windows SharePoint Services site where you will install the template.
  4. On the link bar, click Site Settings.
  5. In the Administration section, click Go To Site Administration.
  6. In the Site Collection Galleries section, click Manage site template gallery.
  7. On the Site Template Gallery page, click Upload Template.
  8. Browse to the location where you extracted the template and select the template. Click the Open button.
  9. Click Save and Close to upload the template.
Instructions for use:

  1. Open your Windows SharePoint Services site.
  2. On the link bar, click Create.
  3. In the Web Pages section, select Sites and Workspaces.
  4. Complete the information and then click Create.
  5. On the Template Selection screen, select the new template from the list, and then click OK.
To use InfoPath forms:

Note: Do not click the Submit button in the InfoPath form until you have completed the following steps.

  1. Open your new Windows SharePoint Services site.
  2. On the link bar, click Documents and Lists.
  3. In the Document Library section, for each form library complete the following:
    1. Open the form library.
    2. Select Modify settings and columns.
    3. In the General Settings section, select Relink Forms to this form library.
    4. Select the Relink check box for the forms you want to link to this form library.
    5. Click Relink Forms.
To point the InfoPath form template to the correct location:

  1. Open your new Windows SharePoint Services site.
  2. On the link bar, click Documents and Lists.
  3. In the Document Library section, select the Absence Request Form Library.
  4. On the Absence Request Form Library page, select Modify settings and columns.
  5. On the Customize Absence Request Form Library page, select Edit Template. An InfoPath form template will open.
  6. On the Tools menu, select Data Connections.
  7. For each of the data connections listed in the Data Connections dialog, click the Modify button, and in the SharePoint form library text box provide the correct URL to your SharePoint site (for example: http://server/AMB/Absence%20Request Form Library/).
  8. Click Next and then Finish.
  9. Click Close to close the Data Connections dialog, and then save and close the InfoPath form template.
To remove this download:

To uninstall the template, complete the following. You must have Administrator rights to the root of the Windows SharePoint Server.

Note: This will not remove the templates from any sites that were already created using this template. It will only prevent users from creating new sites based on that template.
  1. Open the top-level Windows SharePoint Services site where you will install the template.
  2. On the link bar, click Site Settings.
  3. In the Administration section, click Go To Site Administration.
  4. In the Site Collection Galleries section, click Manage site template gallery.
  5. Click the Edit icon of the template you will uninstall. Click Delete and then OK
