At last! Thank you Windows Live Messenger

Richard has noticed that Live Messenger includes a link to the forgotten your password web page.  I've been harping on about how difficult it is to change your password or secret question in Messenger, and now we've included it at the sign in page.

So all you need to do is get the latest version of Windows Live Messenger from here...

Thank you, thank you, thank you to the Live Messenger team.  Now I can stop nagging...!

Cant get MSN to work with Windows Vista, on a fresh install of it with nothing else installed keep getting error 80072745. It says this may be a firewall issue, have tried adding msn to the firewall, disabling the firewall, but still the same. All of the internet works ok, and MSN works ok on another pc on the same network running windows xp.

Any suggestions?

Paul,

try this for your 80072745 error:

Add these addresses to your hosts file:

65.54.239.80 dp.msnmessenger.akadns.net

65.54.239.80 messenger.hotmail.com.

It is a firewall issue.  Also look here for more ideas: http://martinjknight.wordpress.com/2006/10/26/resolving-the-issue-of-those-using-msn-messenger-error-code-80072745/

Have tried modifying the host file, and what it says on those sites, still unsuccessful. I have tried this from separate internet connections, also run the regsvr32 softpub.dll, however on regsvr32 wintrust.dll

regsvr32 initpki.dll regsvr32 MSXML3.dll get an error: The module was located but the call to the dllRegister failed with error code 0x80070005. For more info, look online using this error code...

I do like the new vista interface, but if it has quite a few bugs [msn not signing in, outlook 2007 not receiving emails, sync center not installing some 3rd party sw as it looks for activesync still, some non-microsoft products wont install on it at all] in it still, it worth waiting at least until the first batch of updates have been released for it.

Paul,

mail me using the email link above documenting the error message and the steps you've taken to fix things, and I'll forward your mail through to the correct team internally and get some sort of fix for you...
