Where can I obtain tickets for the Asian Games?

Tickets for the 15th Doha Asian Games 2006 are available in Qatar at select offices of Qatar Airways, Qatar National Bank (QNB) and QTel. Please visit our ticket section for the street address of these offices. You can also purchase tickets online through the ticketing sections in this website.

Alternatively, residents outside Qatar can contact their National Olympic Committee to enquire if a ticketing service is available.

How much will tickets for Asian Games events cost?

Ticket prices range from QAR5 to QAR20 for sports events, QAR500 for the Opening Ceremony and QAR 150 for the Closing Ceremony. Prices vary depending on the event and where it is being held. Some events, such as the marathon, will take place on public streets and therefore can be watched without tickets.

I have bought tickets for the Games. When will I get them?

Tickets bought in the first phase (until August) will be delivered to you in a special souvenir package during November.

When will I able to buy tickets for all sports?

Tickets for all sports will be available in mid September after the draw for the team sports is finalised.

We would like to attend the Asian Games in a big group. Is it possible to buy tickets in bulk? Also, can you arrange accommodation for us?

- Merchandise -

My children have returned from a visit to Qatar and are talking about Orry. Who is Orry?

Orry is the loveable mascot for the 15th Asian Games and can be seen all over Doha. Orry is an oryx, a native animal of Qatar, which is also said to be the inspiration for stories about unicorns. The oryx was almost extinct, but a special farm has been established to breed oryx and strengthen their numbers.

The Orry mascot character will feature largely in Doha 2006 Official Merchandise with an entire range dedicated to Orry. Everything from a pen sets, mugs, caps and t-shirts will feature Orry.

Where can I find official merchandise of the Asian Games?

The 15th Asian Games Doha 2006 Official Merchandise will be launched at kiosks and outlets from the 10th August. Within Qatar, leading malls such as Hyatt Plaza, City Centre and Landmark Mall will all stock a wide variety of Official Merchandise. Doha Duty Free, Q-Post and a host of other leading retailers will also offer customers the chance to purchase this exciting product.

Various retailers across the GCC and Middle East regions will also provide opportunities to buy Official Merchandise, as will Bossini stores across East Asia.

- Media -

I am a media representative from a country which is competing in the 15th Asian Games. How do I apply for accreditation?

Please contact your National Olympic Committee (NOC) in the first instance. Each NOC is responsible for coordinating applications for approved media from their respective country. DAGOC's Accreditation Department will liaise directly with each NOC to facilitate applications for its entire delegation, including media representatives. DAGOC Accreditation will not liaise directly with any media individual or organisation, only the respective NOC.

Does Asian Games media accreditation entitle me to a Visa?

If your NOC or World News Agency is considering you for accreditation and your application is successful, you will enjoy access to a special Asian Games Visa. The Asian Games Visa will be valid from 1 August to 31 December 2006, and is available to applicants who meet the 1 August 2006 deadline, and will be subject to a security and background check. Applications received after the 1 August 2006 deadline will not be entitled to the Asian Games Visa. Normal visa procedures must be followed and will be at the sole responsibility and expense of the applicant.

- Volunteer -

Do I have to be a Qatari citizen to volunteer to help with the Games?

No, volunteers come from all sections of the community, with many nationalities represented from all parts of the world.

How long is a shift? And how many shifts (maximum) can I work at a stretch?

The average shift is 6 to 8 hours. The maximum stretch will depend on your role and the amount of time you are able to give us.

When and where will I get my uniform and accreditation card?

The Uniform & Accreditation Distribution Centre will be located near Al Gharrafa Stadium. Volunteers will receive an invitation giving the exact date and time for uniform and accreditation collection. It is important that this appointment be kept in order to avoid long wait times, and to provide the most efficient service.

How will I enter a venue?

All personnel will be screened when they enter a venue. Any bags you carry will be passed through an x-ray machine to check for Prohibited or Restricted Items.

Females will be searched by a female police officer.

What do I do if my accreditation card is damaged, lost or stolen?

You cannot enter a venue without an accreditation card. If you are off-shift, please go to the Uniform and Accreditation Centre (UAC) and report your situation. If you are on-shift, please go to the Venue Accreditation Help Office (VAHO) and report your situation.

Will transport be provided?

The Transport Programme has given the following options;

  • Drive and park at Venues
  • Mowasalat Public Transport
  • Workforce Bus Network - proposal under further study and evaluation

More details about transport will be available closer to the Games.

How can I arrange my own accommodation for the Games?

There is a wide range of accommodation available in Qatar; a list of accommodation is available under the "About Qatar" section of this site.

What exactly are the Asian Games and who is organising them?

The Asian Games are held every four years in different Asian countries, with the first held in New Delhi in 1951. Doha 2006 is the 15th Games the first ever to take place in the Gulf.

The Asian Games is the second biggest multi-sport event in the world after the Olympics and is the single biggest event to be held this year.

The Doha Asian Games Organising Committee (DAGOC) is responsible for the organisation of the Games. The Olympic Council of Asia is the governing body for all sports in Asia and owns the Asian Games.

Every country has its own National Olympic Committee and is responsible for selecting and entering teams for the Games.

How can I find out where the various events take place at the Asian Games?

Different venues for each sport have been built or refurbished specially for the Games. They are all within easy reach of Doha city. For details about sports events and venues, please visit the venues section in the website.

When will we know which athletes and teams will be taking part in the Asian Games?

National Olympic Committees must notify DAGOC about the athletes and teams representing their countries by the end of September 2006. As we approach the Games, we will be hosting biographies of various athletes on our website to help you select your favourite athletes before the Games begin.

Where can I find information on the sports to be played at the 15th Asian Games?

How can I take part in the Asian Games as an athlete?

To participate in the 15th Asian Games Doha 2006, you must be selected by your National Olympic Committee.

- General -

I am coming to Qatar for the Games. What kind of currency is used and where can I find a bank?

The Qatari Riyal is the official currency of the State of Qatar. It is linked to the US dollar at a rate of QAR3.65 to USD1. ATMs are operated by the major banks are widely available and it is possible to draw Riyals using cards from most countries.

Qatar is a Muslim country. Are there any rules we should observe when we visit Doha for the Games?

You are asked to respect local customs and sensitivities and to not wear revealing clothes in public. Dresses and skirts that cover the knees and shirts that cover the upper arms are advisable for women. Long shorts and short-sleeved shirts are usually acceptable for men. Alcohol is not generally on sale, but is available at most of the big hotels.
