A list of returned missioners and other men and women who are available to share their experience and expertise on a variety of topics connected with global mission and solidarity for justice.

SUDAN, AFRICA

Discussion of problems facing people in the third world. The presentations focus on the Harvester’s Mission in Yei, Sudan. This Christian Mission founded in 2001 runs a school and orphanage in war torn South Sudan. Beginning in May 2005, Kelly Schill RN, has served as the only medical person at the mission in Yei. The school has nearly 500 students and the orphanage houses 100 kids ranging in age from newborns to high school. Presenters Jack and Betsy Schill, Kelly’s parents, have worked in the archdiocese for many years. Betsy Schill taught at both Rosemary School in Fredonia and Holy Trinity School in Kewaskum for over twenty years. She also served many years as a church organist and has headed the liturgy and decorating committees of St. Rose of Lima and Holy Rosary Parishes. Jack Schill taught social studies at Grafton High School for over thirty years serving as department chair, and he has been the Finance Committee Chair at St. Rose and Holy Rosary Parishes for over twenty years. Jack and Betsy have made this joint presentation at a variety of school and church functions in Ozaukee and Washington Counties. Part of the goal of this program is to raise awareness of the importance of mission work in the developing world. By teaching about the problems in Africa and illustrating how small contributions here can have a great impact on the lives of people over there. Their April 2006 visit to Sudan will provide fresh insights for their programs. ***Program requires interested groups to have available: A computer with windows 2000 or higher, PowerPoint 2000 or 2003, a projector for the computer, and a place to show the program. There is some music within the program but it is not central to the program so a sound system for the computer is optional.

Frank Murray, who in the course of his 20 years in Africa saw at close range the tragedy of hunger, is available to come to your parish. He can review with you the roots of starvation and indicate how through joining in an Offering of Letters you can free the poor from the pangs of poverty. Art Wigchers, a St. Joseph Wauwatosa parish member, traveled to East Africa as an Ambassador of Hope with Catholic Relief Services in the fall of 2003. He visited Uganda and Ethiopia where his findings on HIV/AIDS, civil war, and famine have been summarized in a compelling 30 minute power-point presentation.
