Socials

One of our popular events, socials is conducted as an alternative to the bar and club scene in a positive and accepting atmosphere where people can become acquainted with each other. Past events have included dim sum, camping trips, potlucks, amusement parks, dining out, film night, holiday parties, museum trips, and parties.

Special Events

Continuing our participation in community events, GAPSN has a history with the LA Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, Long Beach Pride, Christopher Street West Parade & Festival, Lotus Festival, and August Moon Festival and has an annual Pacific Bridge Awards Dinner. Also included are API Awareness and Cultural education programs.

GAPSN Classic

Bringing together mature and refined men, Classic offers alternative raps and programming on a different level that address the needs and concerns of mature GAPSN members.

Movie Screening

Very little communicates the gay or bisexual API experience like a film. Previously, GPASN brought East Palace, West Palace and Bishonen to Southern California Premiere Screenings, GAPSN also co-sponsors films with Visual Communications' LA Asian Pacific Film & Video Festival and Outfest.

What Is GAPSN?

GAPSN is a brotherhood of gay and bisexual Asian Pacific Islander (API) men supporting and empowering each other. We offer something for everyone through our programming. We create a safe space for all gay and bisexual men through our socials, raps, and political-advocacy work. We come from every Asian Pacific Islander background and represent all ages, careers, and stages of coming out. We are your brothers. We are your family.

Recently celebrating our 18th anniversary, GAPSN started as Gay Asian Rap (GARP) in October of 1984. In 1987 we helped organize the first West Coast Conference of Lesbian and Gay API's. In 1990 we became GAPSN in response to a need for expanded programming, advocacy work and organizational structure. GAPSN has made its presence felt participating in the CSW Pride Festival & Parade, hosting the 1993 North American Asian Pacific Islander Gay Conference, the 1993 March on Washington, RICE Conference and the Stonewall 25th Anniversary in NY. Since then, GAPSN has evolved into an award winning organization voicing our issues to both the mainstream API community and the lesbian, gay, bisexual and the transgender community.

GAPSN Mission Statement

The goal of GAPSN is to provide a supportive environment for Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender API Men on issues of significance to the Gay API Community.

Asian Outreach & Education Efforts

Educate and broaden the level of understanding in the API community toward its LGBT members. GAPSN continues in our struggle to enlighten our API brothers and sisters in fighting homophobia and on addressing issues of concerns to the LGBT community. GAPSN was one of the founding members of Korean Americans for Civil Rights (KACR) and the LGBT subcommittee of Asian Pacific Policy and Planning Council (A3PCON).

Immigration

Takes the lead on immigration issues within the Asian Pacific LGBT community, and forcefully voice these issues to other mainstream immigration reform groups. GAPSN will provide members access to limited services and information on immigration issues.

Freedom to Marry

As one of the voices for the right of gays and lesbians to marry, GAPSN was one of the strongest organizational advocates in attempts to defeat Prop. 22. GAPSN had been working on its own Freedom to Marry list and garnering supporters within the API community.
