Site Registration Help/FAQ

Q: Why should I register on latimes.com?
A: By registering, you get access to the entire website as well as customized news, weather and crosswords. You can also choose to receive Top of The Times, our daily e-mail newsletter of the day's top stories from the Los Angeles Times.

Q: How do I register?
A: Click the "Register" link at the top of the page, or go directly to
http://www.latimes.com/register, and follow the instructions on the pages that follow.

Q: How do I activate my account?
A: Soon after submitting your registration information, an activation e-mail will be sent to the address you entered. The e-mail will contain a link to a Web page that you should go to as soon as possible. (You can either click on the link in the e-mail or copy and paste it into your browser.)

Q: Why am I required to go to this Web page to activate my account?
A: It's to ensure that someone else does not sign up under your name.

Q: I lost my original activation e-mail. How do I get a new one?
A: Go to
http://www.latimes.com/inactive to request a new activation e-mail.

Q: I am unable to connect to the Web address delivered to me in the activation e-mail. What should I do?
A: Send a
Registration Trouble Report. Upon receiving your request, we will activate your new account.

Q: I've forgotten my password. How can I get it?
A: Connect to this link and follow the instructions: http://www.latimes.com/password

Q: How do I log out?
A: You can log out by going to http://www.latimes.com/logout or by going to the Member Services section and clicking "Logout."

Q: The latimes.com home page shows a "Welcome" message but no login or registration button. How do I register or login?
A: The computer was probably used by another latimes.com registered user. Just click on "If you are not (your name), Click Here." You will then be invited to register. You can also click here to register or login.

Q: When I try to register, why do I get a "page or URL not found" error?
A: Some firewalls or browser security settings may not accept our cookie. You may need to adjust the settings or temporarily disable them while you register. You can update most browsers' security settings by entering "http://www.latimes.com" as a trusted site. You may also adjust a privacy setting that lets you override cookie blocking for latimes.com.

Q: When I try to access my account, why am I asked repeatedly to "login or register."
A: Some firewalls or browser security settings may not accept our cookie or allow you to login on a free, non-secure site unless you adjust the settings or temporarily disable them while you register. In addition to adjusting any firewall you use, you can also update most browsers' security settings by typing in "http://www.latimes.com" as a trusted site. You may also have a privacy setting where you can override cookie blocking for latimes.com.
