It might not quite be the King of the Music Phones, but Motorola's RAZR MAXX boasts HSDPA (aka 3.5G) for faster data transfer than even super-swift 3G.

It also rocks the spot as a music player. EQ settings like Spatial Audio (makes it sound spacey) and Bass Boost (makes it sound bassy), help AC/DC's Back In Black pack the necessary punch. Even more impressive, the supplied earphones don't suck. Bluetoothed and wireless, their only arguable failing is that they're the size of a house.

The music-playing application is more problematic. For starters, there's no iTunes, as on previous models. It uses the less user-friendly Music Phone software. And while dedicated music controls flame into life on the exterior of the clamshell, you're limited to its Media Finder for playing tunes, with the only option on offer being tune-shuffle.

Music is stored on MicroSD cards (or 50MB internal memory). Battery life, at five hours, is good and it looks slim, but dated. With such great audio performance, this is more ear-candy than eye-candy.
