Scortichini makes run at LIPGA title

Larry Scortichini, a new assistant pro at Fox Hill, is making a splash in his return to the Met Section. He knocked off medalist Mark Mielke (Mill River Club), 1-up, in the first round of the MasterCard Long Island PGA at Sands Point Golf Club, defeated Darrell Kestner (Deepdale), 1-up, in the second round, then advanced to the semifinals with a 4 and 3 victory over Mike Gilmore (Piping Rock) yesterday. Scortichini plays Ron Faria (Atlantic Club) in an 8:10 semifinal this morning. Rick Hartmann (Atlantic) plays R.J. Ziats (Muttontown) at 8. The final will began 45 minutes after the conclusion of the morning matches. Scortichini, who previously worked at Nissequogue, North Hempstead, North Hills and North Fork, is back in the section after working in Massachusetts last summer.
