Anyone else not got a bill from o2 recently!
Found this and thought I would share it (just incase you missed it)

Here's something that you may have forgotten about, or perhaps not realised - if you're troubleshooting message delivery problems between Outlook and a mail server, you can enable logging in Outlook for troubleshooting purposes. The option is one of those little tick boxes hidden away in Advanced Options under Tools\Options\Other. Once enabled, all communication that occurs between Outlook and the mail server is written to a log file (OPMLOG.LOG). Full details can be found in KBs 300479 and 831053.
300479 How to Enable Transport Logging
SUMMARY
Microsoft Outlook supports the logging of the communications that occur between Outlook and various types of e-mail servers. These logs can be helpful when you troubleshoot problems with the transfer of messages between Outlook and the e-mail server.
Outlook can log the communications with Microsoft Exchange, Post Office Protocol version 3 (POP3), Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP), Internet Messaging Access Protocol (IMAP), and Hotmail servers.
MORE INFORMATION
How to Enable Logging
Follow these steps to enable logging:
- On the Tools menu, click Options.
- Click the Other tab
- Click the Advanced Options button
- Click to select the Enable mail logging (troubleshooting) check box.
- Click OK to save the setting, and then return to the main Options screen
- Click OK.
- Quit and restart Outlook.
From this point on, every time Outlook sends or receives messages, the communication that occurs between Outlook and the e-mail server is written to a log file.
NOTE: It is very important to disable logging after the logs have captured the failed communication with the server. If you do not disabled logging, the logs continue to grow indefinitely.
Log File Locations
The log files are in plain text format and are placed in the following locations:
- POP3, SMTP, MAPI
The POP3, SMTP, MAPI transport types are written to a single log file in the following locations.
On Microsoft Windows XP, and Microsoft Windows 2000:
C:\Documents and Settings\<logon name>\Local Settings\temp\OPMLOG.LOG
On Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition, and Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me):
C:\Windows\temp\OPMLOG.LOG
- IMAP Logs
On Windows 2000:
C:\Documents and Settings\<logon name>\Local Settings\temp\Outlook Logging\<NameOfIMAPServer>\IMAP0.LOG, IMAP1.LOG, etc
On Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition and Windows Millennium Edition:
C:\Windows\temp\Outlook Logging\<NameOfIMAPServer>\IMAP0.LOG, IMAP1.LOG, etc
- Hotmail Logs
On Windows 2000:
C:\Documents and Settings\<logon name>\Local Settings\temp\Outlook Logging\Hotmail\Hotmail0.LOG, Hotmail1.LOG, etc
On Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition and Windows Millennium Edition:
C:\Windows\temp\Outlook Logging\Hotmail\Hotmail0.LOG, Hotmail1.LOG, etc
NOTES:
- IMAP and Hotmail accounts generate one log for each Send/Receive action that you perform on these accounts (the log files are named Hotmail0.LOG, Hotmail1.LOG, etc.).
- If you have multiple Hotmail accounts configured, the folders where the logs are placed are named Hotmail, Hotmail 1, Hotmail 2, etc.
- You may have to close Outlook for the logs to be written to the log files.

SUMMARY
This article discusses the compatibility of Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server and Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 with Microsoft Windows Server 2003.
MORE INFORMATION
Exchange 2000 is supported to run in a Windows Server 2003 environment, where it can take advantage of the new features of the Active Directory directory service and of the global catalog of Windows Server 2003.
Although Exchange 2000 is supported in a Windows Server 2003 Active Directory environment, Exchange 2000 itself must be installed and run on a Microsoft Windows 2000 Server-based computer. You cannot install and run Exchange 2000 on a Windows Server 2003-based computer. There are significant differences between Windows Server 2003 and Windows 2000 Server, including changes to Active Directory, Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS), the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) service, and the Domain Name System (DNS) service. Many of these changes require more architectural work in Exchange than is reasonable in a service pack release. Because of improvements in the Active Directory features of Windows Server 2003, you can enhance the performance of Exchange 2000 when it is run in a Windows Server 2003 environment.
Note The Outlook Web Access (OWA) component of Exchange 5.5 is not supported on Windows Server 2003. Though installation of the OWA component on Windows Server 2003 may be successful, OWA for Exchange 5.5 was not designed to run on Windows Server 2003. This configuration has not been tested for long term compatibility.
Before you install the first Windows Server 2003 domain controller, follow the steps that are provided in the following article to prevent corrupted attributes. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
325379 How to upgrade Windows 2000 domain controllers to Windows Server 2003
Exchange 5.5 is also supported in a Windows Server 2003 Active Directory environment. However, Exchange 5.5, including the OWA component, must be installed and run either on a Windows 2000 Server-based computer or on a Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Server-based computer. Because Exchange 5.5 does not use Active Directory, Exchange 5.5 does not benefit from the new Active Directory features of Windows Server 2003 when Exchange 5.5 is run in a Windows Server 2003 environment.
Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 is supported in a native Windows Server 2003 environment, a native Windows 2000 Server environment, or a mixed Windows 2000 Server and Windows Server 2003 environment. You can install and run Exchange 2003 on either a Windows Server 2003-based computer or a Windows 2000 Server-based computer.

CAUSE
This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
- You configure an X.400 connector between two Exchange Server 2003 computers.
- You send a message from one of those Exchange Server 2003 computers to a user whose mailbox is hosted on the other Exchange Server 2003 computer.
WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, configure a Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) connector between your Exchange Server 2003 routing groups. For additional information about how to create and configure an SMTP connector in Exchange Server 2003, see the Exchange Server 2003 Administration Guide. With its two screens, Nintendo DS instantly shows its innovative face. But capabilities like a touch-screen input, voice recognition and wireless communication set it apart from every other game device, and again demonstrate Nintendo’s passion for groundbreaking originality.
Game players need only use their imagination to see how the DS promises to transform the portable game industry by changing the way gamers relate to their games – and each other. Two screens offer two perspectives on the action at once. The touch screen could make accessing items, moving characters or navigating menus as easy as a tap or drag on the screen. Voice recognition could let players simply tell the game what they want it to do. Chat software will let users transmit text messages, handwriting and even drawings to one another. And wireless functions could link players in the same room – or across the country. The unique features of the Nintendo DS hold a wellspring of potential for the future. Game players will be wowed.
Nintendo DS makes a vast library of Game Boy® Advance games readily available. Developers could find ways to make new connections between GBA games and DS games. The GBA port could be used for new hardware, enormously expanding the functional expandability of the DS.
The BBC Reports that "The gadget will go on sale on 21 November in the US and 2 December in Japan. Europe will see the device on sale sometime at the start of 2005. ... Nintendo also announced the DS will have a price tag in the US of $149.99 (£84), and 15,000 yen in Japan (£76)."

1050: Ooh couple of mini power cuts
1101: Okay, old Sify wireless have a few places where you can renew your account and the renewal id and password are called different things in different places!
1200: Met George downstairs. Waiting for VJay to turn up. Spoke to the guys behind reception about Ganesha and they said the hotel has one :-|
1215: Giving up on VJay, so we wondered down to the basement of the hotel to have a look at the Ganesha
They also said that if we want to go and see them sink the Ganesha in the lake we could, but we would need to be back by about 1630
1220: Hired a Rickshaw (for 30 an hour) and asked to go down to the Bull Temple
1240: Arrived at the Bull Temple and had a walk around. You need to take your shoes off (this is standard for temples) and we pay some guy 1 rupee for look after them! The temple was small, but quite nice - not very colourful
1250: Got our shoes back and had a wonder around to look at another temple and some other sights
1300: Off to Tipu's Palace
1310: Like most things Non Indians have to pay more than Indians.
This is Tipu's Summer place and it would seem that he never stayed here at all - Had a look around
1320: Off to the temple next door. Off with the shoes, but no indication on the price:-|
1330: Back out, went to pick up our shoes and the little sh1t that was looking after them for FREE for everyone else, wanted 50 to give us our shoes back - we said NO WAY, and he dropped it to 40. Our driver chipped in and he settled for 10! Daylight robbery if you ask me, and its not the money but the principal of it! Now our driver wants to take us shopping
1345: First shop, a government kind of outlet, stuff isn't very nice
1350: Off to the second shop without spending a penny!
1400: Second shop. This is quite a nice one. Again a government run one, the guys are from Kashmir.
1430: Ohh both George and I spend a few quid in here.
1500: Back to the hotel, much to the disgust of our driver - we give him 100 and he walks of, not happy at all
1510: Off to find a sports shop to get a wrist support
1530: Got a thumb and wrist support for under 100 which is Damm good. Now sitting at the coffee shop with some Tea and reading some more harry
1610: Back to the hotel, to dump my stuff and then get a lift with the hotel's Ganesha
1630: Down to the basement to sit and wait for the off
1650: And we are off. Both George and I are in the back of a converted rickshaw with 3 other people and the Ganesha.
1720: Made our way to the lake to watch them drop the Ganesha in to the lake and watch it sink!
1730: And it's over. Back at the hotel. We have had a call to meet some of the boys and Ravi at the mega bowl by 1930
1900: Down in reception - Need to get a Rickshaw to the mega bowl

1230: I wake for the second time
1340: Going to have my free pub lunch today - Having a beer (for breakfast!) and a steak!
1415: Nearly finished my beer, but the food is going to have to be delivered to my room, as the close the bar at 1430
1430: Food arrives - The steak is like a bit of old boot leather
1500: Right time to go out so the ISKCON temple and a few others
1540: Arrived at ISKCON (aHari Krishna temple), but it's not open until 1600, so we go to another temple
1600: Back at ISKON.
1620: Still not in the temple. It has Disney style queues and you can't take cameras in!. It would seem that this temple actually has 3 temples. The bigger of them is covered in blue glass
1700: Well that was 1 hour to get in and out. It is actually really bad, all they want to do is sell you stuff the whole way through. It is more like a theme park than a temple. Now off for some shops!
1730: First shop, is another government shop, that I saw last week on my walking tour. Really nice inside and they have some great stuff. Come out after spending a few quid
1745: Second shop. Not a very nice one, just do a walk around and the walk out
1800: On route to a "silk" shop. T calls, she is feeling sad today ... I miss her, but not long now until I get home

1900: Back the hotel - It's Kingfisher time!
2020: Time to be socialable in the bar - well read my book in the company of others!
2100: Ohh looks like India is going to loose the cricket!
2220: Yep they did by 3 wickets ... do
2300: Ordered a chef's delight with fries
The menu says "A delightful combination of pasta, baked beans, garlic, spinach and vegetable, served gratinated.
2315: Food up. Shame it didn't have any pasta in it!
2320: Spoke to T and my Mum & Dad. It's good to hear familiar voices
2346: Humm that was nice, very tasty, probably my favourite dish here

1300: Called down for Breakie, but looks like they might not have any bread
1320: Breakie up with one slice of toast
1400: Out an about, main challenge of the day is to get T and outfit or two
1520: Back at the Coffee Shop, which some swag. Also had a couple of min power cut and the manager in the shop took a shine to me :-| and wanted to chat .. which was Okay!
1530: Looking out from my vantage point at the coffee shop, the road seemed to get really quite all of a sudden. This is why:
1605: Back at the hotel, time for a quick shower and a few pages of harry potter
1700: Waiting for our transport. Was accosted by the Hotel Manager and Front of Desk Manager. I filled out a feedback form the other day.
1710: Basically they wanted to know how my stay was, and they said that I could check out at 1630 next Friday instead of 1200. I can get breakfast when I come in at 3am in the morning for free, and I can call to use the gym any time I like. This must be the first time I have had direct feedback from a questionnaire in a hotel!
1740: Well that was a drive and a half. We must have avoided several accidents by inches, but shaken and not stirred we get to the safely of the office
1830: Team Meeting was interesting, doing case hand overs!
1930: Damm just read an email about a tool of mine. I have 5 days to get it ready for web release ..Damm, Damm, damm

2130: Guess what .. you got it curry!

SUMMARY
This article describes the features and components of Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Standard Edition and Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise Edition.
Trulli completes Toyota deal
Toyota have finally confirmed the signing of Jarno Trulli - and the Italian has already had his first drive for the team. Trulli completes a strong driver line-up alongside Ralf Schumacher and test driver Olivier Panis. The 30-year-old drove a Toyota for the first time at Silverstone on Thursday morning, having severed his ties with Renault on Tuesday night. more
JV inks two-year Sauber deal
Sauber have put an end to weeks of speculation by announcing their 2005 driver line-up. F1’s man of the moment Jacques Villeneuve will replace the departing Giancarlo Fisichella, laying to rest rumours that he was still pitching for a BAR drive. Villeneuve has signed a two-year contract with the Swiss privateer outfit, which will come into effect on 1 November 2004. more
Okay, I wanted to start with a disclaimer - as in all my blogs on India, I am expressing my thoughts, and ideas. If this offends you then DON'T read any further!.
Also, in my previous blogs, please translate "White Man" and Foreigner to mean Non Indians.
0425: Read some harry potter and then sleep won the battle
0430: Sounds like the storm is getting closer, thunder just scared the living daylights out of me
0830: Why is it that housekeeping are so damm noisy, banging and dropping things all over the place
1140: The noise woke me up again
1241: Breakie ordered
1330: So off for an afternoon stroll. Todays objective is to find the Commercial Road, which is another shopping area that is supposed to be cheaper than MG road and Brigade road. The plan is to walk up St Marks Road, Right down MG Road, Right at the junction with Brigade road and it's the 2nd or 3rd on the left after that.
1530: Back from my little walk. House keeping is still in my room!. Found Commercial Road, it doesn't look too bad, full locals at this time of the day and I suspect it's going to be heaving on the weekend. Commercial Road seems to basically be just clothes and shoe shops
Commercial Road
I dunno the name of the road next to commercial road, but this seemed to be more hardware shops, with bike shops, tools shops and places that sold steel and aluminium :-|
So I worked my return root back to my coffee shop and passed a goat! and this place. I suspect I will need to go here if I carry on eating curry every day!
I nearly forgot about this picture I took. I have not included in-line, as it is a bit disturbing, so don't click on this link if your squeamish. This is part of a drink / drive campaign: http://flaphead.dns2go.com/blog/images/27/o_DrinkDriveAd.JPG
Anyway made it for a cuppa and the back here to watch some TV!
1540: House keeping have "let" me back in my room. The guy is the same one that "done" my room yesterday. I suppose at least today he made my bed. He is a really lazy bollox! Might bitch about him Later!
1700: Didn't bother to surf the web, giving my hand a rest from the mouse :-| Found a place that might be fun to visit on the weekend, it's called Bannerghatta National Park. It's only about 15km from the hotel, so I asked the guy at the travel desk in the hotel to find out some more information for me.
1730: In work, was the only one in the car. It is funny what you pass as you drive around
2105: Dinner time
2130: Guess what, curry again - I think i'll start taking pictures so you can see what I get to eat ... I'll start tomorrow
2200: Looks like the "call" system that the guys use has gone down, so it's a bit quite today. Catching up on the mountain of emails and blogs I have
0034: Still no "call" system. Ran windows update on all the PC I have to update all the latest fixes and stuff - Gonna reboot my desktop now :-|
0050: Found some stuff out about Bannerghatta National Park. "The 25,000 acre park is home to panthers, lions, tigers and a large variety of birds. Indulge your sense of adventure with a lion and tiger safari for a tête-à-tête with the big cats." It says that it's Bangalore – 25 kms, but I don't know how far from my hotel. As ever things are never as good as they seem: Day Visit: Indians: Rs. 325/- | Foreign citizens: US $15/-. Man this is really pissing me off
0200: Time for another cuppa - I find it very interesting talking to Team Managers from different places, very interesting indeed!
0300: Time to bail
0310: The guy want to keep to his timings, so we check out table tennis down in the basement
0316: An we are off
0330: Back at the hotel, the manager wants to see us - they have just given us a complementary "Pub Lunch" - nice :-D
0335: Beer open, cartoon network on
0420: Wife calls for a chat. Humm can't get online to post this Blog - need to try in the morning
0430: Sparko time

A common problem for administrators of IIS servers is configuring and troubleshooting SSL enabled websites. To assist in administrators efforts, Microsoft has designed a tool - SSL Diagnostics - to aid in quickly identifying configuration problems in the IIS metabase, certificates, or certificate stores.
This tool allows users to review configuration information in a easy to read view mode or to run the tool silently with only the creation of a log file. During use, administrators can simulate the SSL handshake to find errors. They can also quickly "hot swap" certificates for testing purposes.
These packages come in two forms: Express and Full. The express will only give the pertinent tools for administrators to use SSL Diagnostics while full install installs the same files with the appropriate documentation. Included in the full install is a SSL Frequently Asked Questions that can assist in the learning of SSL for administrators.

SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, when you add a public folder to the Favorites folder in Microsoft Outlook, and then you view the contents of the public folder by using the shortcut that you added to the Favorites folder, you may find that the total number of messages in the folder that are marked as unread is incorrect.
CAUSE
This problem may occur if the public folder that you added to the Favorites folder contains one or more subfolders. Exchange 2003 incorrectly includes subfolders as items when it determines the number of unread items that are contained in a folder.

JP Morgan is canning a $5bn, seven-year outsourcing agreement with IBM. IBM won the contract ahead of EDS and CSC, taking responsibility for the investment bank's data centres, desktop support and network services.
The deal was signed 30 December 2002 and was hailed by Eric Ray, vice president for financial services at IBM, as "the largest computer services deal in the financial services sector".
Four thousand JP Morgan staff moved to IBM: they are all returning to the bank, beginning January 2005.
JP Morgan recently merged with Bank One and, following a review, decided it now has enough capacity in-house to manage its own technology.

This update resolves a newly-discovered, privately reported vulnerability. A remote code execution vulnerability exists in the WordPerfect 5.x converter that is provided as part of the affected software. The vulnerability is documented in the Vulnerability Details section of this bulletin. If a user is logged on with administrative privileges, an attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could take complete control of an affected system, including installing programs; viewing, changing, or deleting data; or creating new accounts with full privileges. Users whose accounts are configured to have fewer privileges on the system would be at less risk than users who operate with administrative privileges.

Exchange ActiveSync
You receive the following error message:
Synchronization failed due to an error on the server. Try again. Error code: HTTP_500 CAUSE
This issue can occur if the Exchange virtual directory in Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) is configured to accept only Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) connections or if Integrated Windows authentication is not enabled on the Exchange virtual directory. With Exchange ActiveSync, this issue can occur if forms-based authentication is enabled on the Exchange Server.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, use one of the following methods.
Method 1
Install and configure an Exchange Server 2003 computer as a front-end server. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
818476 You can configure either Exchange Server 2003 Standard Edition or Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise Edition as a front-end server
Method 2
Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
Create a secondary virtual directory for Exchange that does not require SSL, and then add a registry value to point to the new virtual directory. You must use Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager to create this virtual directory for Exchange ActiveSync and Outlook Mobile Access to work. If you are using Windows Server 2003, follow these instructions:
Note These steps affect both Outlook Mobile Access connections and Exchange ActiveSync connections. After you follow these steps, both Outlook Mobile Access and Exchange ActiveSync connections use the new virtual directory that you create.
- Start Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
- Locate the Exchange virtual directory. The default location is the following:
Web Sites\Default Web Site\Exchange
- Right-click the Exchange virtual directory, click All Tasks, and then click Save Configuration to a File.
- In the File name box, type a name. For example, type ExchangeVDir. Click OK.
- Right-click the root of this Web site. Typically, this is Default Web Site. Click New, and then click Virtual Directory (from file).
- In the Import Configuration dialog box, click Browse, locate the file that you created in step 4, click Open, and then click Read File.
- Under Select a configuration to import , click Exchange, and then click OK.
A dialog box will appear that states that the "virtual directory already exists."
- In the Alias box, type a name for the new virtual directory that you want Exchange ActiveSync and Outlook Mobile Access to use. For example, type ExchDAV. Click OK.
- Right-click the new virtual directory. In this example, click
ExchDAV. Click Properties.
Click the Directory Security tab.
Under Authentication and access control, click Edit.
Make sure that only the following authentication methods are enabled, and then click OK:
- Integrated Windows authentication
- Basic authentication
Under IP address and domain name restrictions, click Edit.
Click Denied access, click Add, click Single computer, type the IP address of the server that you are configuring, and then click OK.
Under Secure communications, click Edit. Make sure that Require secure channel (SSL) is not enabled, and then click OK.
Click OK, and then close the IIS Manager.
Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
Locate the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MasSync\Parameters
Right-click Parameters, click to New, and then click String Value.
Type ExchangeVDir, and then press ENTER. Right-click ExchangeVDir, and then click Modify.
In the Value data box, type the name of the new virtual directory that you created in step 8. For example, type ExchDAV. Click OK.
Note Do not type a forward slash before the virtual directory name.
Quit Registry Editor.
Restart the IIS Admin service. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.
- In the list of services, right-click IIS Admin service, and then click Restart.
MORE INFORMATIONTo access the contents of a user's mailbox in Exchange Server 2003, the Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync and the Outlook Mobile Access virtual directories make an explicit DAV logon to the Exchange virtual directory. The call is similar to the following:
http://netbios_name_of_mailbox_server/exchange/mailbox_alias
The Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync and Outlook Mobile Access virtual directories cannot access the contents of the user's mailbox if the Exchange virtual directory is configured to require SSL. The Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync and Outlook Mobile Access virtual directories only try to connect with the Exchange virtual directory over TCP port 80 (HTTP), not over TCP Port 443 (HTTPS).
Outlook Mobile Access tries to connect to the Exchange virtual directory by using all the following authentication methods:
When you configure forms-based authentication on the Exchange Server 2003, the authentication method for the Exchange virtual directory is set to Basic authentication, and the default Domain is set to the backslash character. The Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync virtual directory can only connect to the Exchange virtual directory by using Kerberos authentication.
This optional update provides the Junk E-mail Filter in Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 with a more current definition of which e-mail messages should be considered junk e-mail. This update was released in September 2004.

The technical standards body for the internet, the IETF, has bounced back Microsoft's controversial proposal for stopping spam, Sender ID. The reason given is that proposal is encumbered by Redmond patents. Adopters aren't allowed to sublicense the technology - it's a "nontransferable, non-sublicenseable" specification, which makes it a non-starter for free or open source developers. Internet standards have traditionally only become accepted if they're free of such restrictions,
Interesting news and views from a number of blogs, but basically:
A lawsuit in which Sendo accused Microsoft of stealing its technology and customers is settled. UK mobile phone maker Sendo has settled a lawsuit in which it accused Microsoft of stealing its technology and its customers. Sendo was a key partner in the software giant's so-called Smartphone project. But Sendo dumped Microsoft as its main software provider just weeks before its compact Z100 handset, offering PC-style capability, was due to launch in 2002. One of the outcomes of the confidential settlement is that Microsoft will withdraw its 4% shareholding in Sendo.

1800: Humm, you know what pisses me off, if the price is not something, they make it up, and normally, they change the price for locals/ foreigners - this is really not on, and is pissing me off - Can you imagine if we done this at home. You should see what they to plane flights - that really is stupid
1900: Back from a haggling trip, and time for a beer.
2115: Met another English Man, he is out here interviewing for programmers, so they can outsource work from London! Time to order some grub and watch the TV. Planning a bit of a tour tomorrow - got ripped of for a map, but know now where I want to go tomorrow. Could be a long day with lots of walking
12th September@ 0000: Watched some crap film on TV, find for some Z's
0400: Damm, woke up, and it's felt like I have slept for hours :-| Watched the F1 qualifying and the news
1130: Breakie time. Decided that I was not going to buy my gadget - I can't be doing with the India/White Man pricing shit. Also decided that I'm going to go to the Taj Mahal next weekend. Apart from the India/White Man pricing shit again for the flights, I don't think I would enjoy spending 30 hours of madness, fly to New Delhi, taxi to the Taj, train back to New Delhi, sleep, a bit of sight seeing, fly to Bangalore. My preference would be at least 3-4 days - arrive, next morning take the train down to Agra, visit what I want, train back to New Delhi then chill. Instead, I'll visit some more of Bangalore next weekend
1310: Right I have planned my route, I want to find St Mary's Basilica, Maharaja's Bangalore Palace, Vidhana Soudha (Government Building), the High Court and Cubbon Park - I reckon probably a 5 Mile hike, but we shall see
1715: Well I make is back, The F1 is getting ready to start on ESPN Star Sports, so time to reflect on the last 4 hours. Well with the Map I have (nothing like a map from home) I managed to find St Mary's Basilica (But of luck really!). I think I must have found it around mass time, as the place was heaving - Interesting to see what I would call "real" India - not like MG Road or around the hotel. You see poverty, but not a lot - a few people asking for money or food, and by the looks of the they are justified - What is reassuring is that they are not just ask the White Man, but the locals too.
St Mary's
The Crowd
Next Stop was the Bangalore Palace. Now my map showed it, so I thought I was heading in the right direction, as the map doesn't actually show the entrance. Well instinct was well wrong, I probably walked 1 mile in the wrong direction (so thats 2 miles there and back). any way I found the palace, but guess what i was not allowed in. I would seem that you can only go in when there is something going on in the palace itself! So that was a bit of a waste of time!
Bangalore Palace
Next Stop was Vidhana Soudha, that wasn't too far a walk down past the Nehru Planetarium and the Indira Gandhi Musical Fountain (only open on Mondays and some Tuesdays). Now my little map book say this about Vidhana Soudha
At the northern boundary of the Cubbon Park stands the Vidhana Soudha, and imposing granite structure built in a neo-Dravidian style to house the Secretariat and the State Legislature. Its cabinet room has massive doors make of pure sandalwood. The Vidhana Soudha is illuminated in the evenings on Sundays and Holidays.
Vidhana Soudha
A nice looking building, what I would call typical India
Crown Court
Opposite was the Crown Court in a nice look red brick colour
Finally I plodded though Cubbon Park (This is an extensive stretch of green land sprawling over an area of 300 acres. It was laid out in 1964.), Past a number of museum's, the aquarium and St Mark's Cathedral back to my coffee shop for a cuppa. Now back at the hotel, cracked out a Kingfisher and a packet of crisps to chill for a bit. In the end I walked just over 10 miles .. Damm my feet ache!
1809: Cool Button is leading the Italian GP! Time for another 49 rupee beer!
1834: Damm a Ferrari 1-2 so far 11 laps to go!
1849: Damm Button 3rd
2000: Popped down to the bar for a couple of beers and to read a bit more of Harry Potter
2153: Just back from a couple of beers down in the bar. The highlight was 3 Americans (yeah sorry about that) who where talking an absolute load of bollox (for the last hour and a half), in a tone that could probably be heard in reception. I wonder if they are stereo-typical Americans (answers via feedback back please) - What is the betting that I meet them at work tomorrow :-| Text the Wife, she is off to the Gym :-D. Beers in the Bar have gone up - sure last week they where a 100 rupees each (in comparison to 49 in the shops) today 105!!!!
2159: Ordered some room service - Chef's Delight (Pasta I hope) and fries. Turned on AXN and it's showing another crap film, Barbed Wire - Fancy a pizza, thats next weekend (next week is going to be a curry week again)
2230: Well I order what was supposed to be a pasta, veggie dish, but I could find the pasta :-o. Watching a pants film again
0000: Wife called, she is just back from KFC setting down to watching some TV
0115: Time for bed said Zebedee ... boing!

1200: Sparko that was good z's
1217: Damm the TV has lost all it's channels
1218: Would see that they have a "technical" problem
1230: TV Back
1308: Breakie up, I'm starving - All this rice & veggie curry are full of carbs. Bet you couldn't do the Atkins Diet out here - not enough protein. Meeting up with George at about 1430, as he want to come on my daily walk around town. Need to get his phone unlocked too
1330: CNN is reshowing a live show from last night about outsourcing in India - this could be interesting
1430: Show over, it was interesting to hear the different opinions about outsourcing in India. I think the biggest impact was the woman from San Francisco who used to work as a programmer for Palm Inc. They asked her to come out to Bangalore to help train the guys out here - Two years later she was out of a job, taken by the people she trained!!
Met George downstairs for a walk!
1617: Back at the hotel - We walked about 3mines, down to MG road and Brigade road an back by my coffee shop. Interesting to see two road of modern shopping. Found a KFC too, that could well be breakie tomorrow! Time for a Coke and some email
1700: Car is here
1715: In to work and back on the old email
1800: Time for a team meeting
1900: Now that was an interesting meeting, the Team Manager here is very good - I wouldn't mind him being my manager
2100: Chow time, guess what .. veggie curry!
2330: Time for Conf Call
0230: Turn down the chance to go out with some of the boys, I need to catch up on sleep
0315: Busy day, waiting for a car to take me back to the hotel now
0335: Slow drive back. Saw my first Pussy Cat since coming here - It was road kill - but still a cat :-( . time for a beer and the cartoon network. I wonder why the Hooded Claw always wants to kill Penelope Pit Stop?

SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to install Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server or Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 for the first time in an existing Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 site, the installation may not finish successfully. You may receive the following error message:
An invalid ADSI pathname was passed.
CAUSE
This problem can occur if you previously attempted to install Exchange 2000 or Exchange 2003 in the site, but the installation did not finish successfully. If you completely remove the server from the Exchange Server organization and the Microsoft Windows 2000 Server domain, Windows 2000 Server Active Directory may still contain links to the deleted public information store. When you attempt to install Exchange 2000 or Exchange 2003 again, these invalid links prevent the installation from finishing successfully.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, run Update.exe with the /removeorg switch

1000: Why is it that people don't understand the concept of mobile phone. I was sparko, and the next doors mobile phone just rang and rang. Then stopped then rang again. You would think that the person calling would get the hint when it wasn't answered, but no. they tried another 2 times.
1200: Must have dozed, that was a good kip - still got a bit of cold, can feel my sinuses playing up
1430: Showered, Brekie scoffed, emailed checked, time to find a gym. Sunil has given me some pointers to a better one (o'll take some photos on the hotel gym l8tr, but basically it has one treadmill, a bike, kind of multogym and some free weights)
1600: I supposed you become content with what you have at home. Check out the Gym .... oh my god! dusy, dirty basement, with maybe a dozen machines in it and two treadmill that look like they would fall apart when you start to use it :-|. Found a cheaper place for my beers (well actually a local place, and they are a whole 1 cheaper @ 49 for 650ml of Kingfishers - a bargain at half the price. Packets of Lays Crisps are knocked out for 10 each too)
The conversation rate that I got at the airport was £1 = 81 rupees
1705: Transport is here off to work
1740: Make it to work, took a video of the trip too, will post it up on the web after I have put it into movie maker
2100: Dinner with the boyz, another veggie curry, quite nice
2200: Ohh, been asked to sit in on an Interview
2230: That guy was okay - wonder if he will get a job?

1130: Sod if, no rest for the wicked, and feels like loads of snot too!
1400: Time for my daily walk
1530: Back, ordered some diet coke - gettin with drawal symtoms! Had a walk down part of MG road (Supposed to be THE shopping place), then headed to my coffee show for a tea (Coffee machine is working today!) It's interesting just sitting out and watching the world go by. Talking to different people, it would seem that 6 or 7 years ago a graduate here with a few year experience under there belt would have earnt say 3000. Today, a graduate with next to no experience but with good english, can earn 50000. Thats the power of Outsourcing. You can see this just walking around, the amount of smartly dressed people who are probably eary 20's. It's a bit like being at home, except for the other people who are poor.
I forgot to tell you about the sight of the day yesterday. If you have watched the film the commitments you may remember the scene with the horse in the lift (I have actually seen this!), well yesterday apart from seeing loads of cows and dogs in the street, I see this large cow wandering out a house (It did make me laugh) ... I would have take a picture but I wasn't ready!
Back to surfing - getting picked up earlier today, need to do a technical presentation to the boys at 1700

2230: Back, dinner was okay, it was a sea food buffet :-| just as well they had a veggie version.

Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) contains major security improvements designed to provide better protection against hackers, viruses, and worms. Windows XP SP2 also improves the manageability of the security features in Windows XP and provides more and better information to help users make decisions that may potentially affect their security and privacy. Because of these significant improvements, Microsoft views Windows XP SP2 as an essential security update and is therefore distributing it as a “critical update” via Windows Update (WU) and the Automatic Updates (AU) delivery mechanism in Windows. Microsoft strongly urges customers with Windows XP and Windows XP Service Pack 1-based systems to update to Windows XP SP2 as soon as possible.

1420: Funny the coffee shop has no coffee today - the machine is broken :-D
1700: Transport arrived
1730: I still can't work out the traffic laws here. It seem that if you use your horn or flash your lights then you are Okay. Had a couple of close shaves on the way in, closest was a land-rover on our side of the road!
1900: Ohh no lights - it would seem that they have some "power" issues here. Throat is not sore any more, now my nose just runs
2020: Dinner time - Veggie curry tonight - not bad at all

Found this .. Hummmm. ... Just when Bluetooth is starting to get a foot hold and become more widely used
Source: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/09/06/ericsson_drops_bluetooth_dev/
Ericsson, the inventor of Bluetooth, has ended years of aggressively positioning the short range standard for dominance and has stopped developing new products. This is a sign that the market has become one for volume suppliers, not innovators, but it highlights a broader sense that, while the current generation of Bluetooth will achieve a large base, the next generation will be pushed into niches by emerging alternatives —if they can avoid Bluetooth’s many mistakes.
1000: Couldn't really sleep, almost as soon as day light breaks the horns start going as the traffic gets heavier. Still shattered, so gonna try and get some more z's would prefer to get up about 1400. We will see how it goes. Why is it that housekeeping always manages to bang the Hoover against your door - I think I'm going to make a bigger sign for my door saying "I'M WORKING NIGHTS - DO NOT DISTURB ME - I NEED SLEEP" then in smaller print "PS if this sign is still on the door at 1600, please ring the door bell to wake me up"
1100: Had a beer or two with Eric last night, as we saw that it was raining a bit. This mornings paper revealed that a bit was 33.4mm! That reminds me time for malarone!
1130: Weather for the rest of the week doesn't look too bad! Check it out
1200: Fancy a run, but the gym is locked. Ring reception and I think I must be talking another language as they don't seem to understand me :-| Take a walk down for a face 2 face but it looks like they have already sent someone to open up .. kool
1210: Okay, now this is job and a half! Some guy open the door to the gym for me, and powers up all the equipment. But, they will not leave me in the room on my own, so some poor guy is sitting on chair just watching me run :-o
1240: Put him out of his misery and go for a shower, but get accosted by housekeeping "Can we clean your room now sir" ... Err Can I he see i'm dripping in sweat!?! I said l8tr
1245: Decided to order some breakfast - that was interesting - I want the continental with just hot water no tea ... lets see what we get
1250: Ohh breakfast as requested nice ... McIver is on TV - and is still as cr@p as it was the first time I saw it
1500: Time of a smoke and let housekeeping into my room (It was like the guy was camped outside my room waiting for me to leave!)
1620: Back from my smoke (after annoying as many people as possible with my cigar smoke) and off to surf the web again. I said the room was a bit cold, and housekeeping have given me a blanket .. ahhhh. Surfing isn't too bad, the link the hotel has seems a bit pants, but they charge 150 for 1hour which is about £1.80. I had to install some software for it to work :-| and they are using http://www.sify.com
1647: Car is here - Off to work I must go
1700: George my compadre turn up - seems that he came in late last night was catching z's when reception called to tell him the car was here ... doh
1740: In the Office - Wow loads of room, and not many people. Looks like we are early too, they don't start until 1830!
2100: Dinner time, in the canteen Not 2 bad and mildly spicy, stuck to the veggie stuff. This did make me laugh in a cruel way - Eric was supposed to train today, so he was up a 6am to get the car into work (he was bitchin yesterday about getting up early, but laughting at me for having to work late). When he got here, he was told that he is actually training this evening and not this morning .... doh - so then it was back to the hotel for some z's and then back at 1700. Spoke to some of the locals about going to the Taj Mahal - it would seem that flights from Bangalore to Delhi are damm expensive (for some unknown reason), so they are suggesting that I try and change my return flight to go via Delhi and spend a day there. Might check that out tomorrow.
2130: Can you believe that the hotel bar is only open from 1800 to 2330. Doing a night shift will have be back at 4am so no beer. Asked one of the guys to run up the road for some beers ;-). Nice and cheap at 50 each (less than half the price of the hotel bar!)
1233: Moved desk to sit with the boyz instead of in the middle of nowhere
0130: Oohhhhh, Call from the wife - looks like we might have a buyer for our house! The office is sooooo cold I had to go to the un-air-conditioned life lobby to warm up a bit!
0200: Come on nearly there - I need sleep now - Ready for a beer and some z's
0215: My American friends have done a runner - I hope they haven't gone back to the hotel with out me.
0219: Labor day today, so the guys aren't tooo busy
0220: Wife calls .. ring, ring
0240: The have come back, getting ready to leave. Got a bit of a sore throat - could the water or tea. Time to pop some drugs!
0300: Time to Bail - Even at this time of the morning they honk horns
0320: Back to the hotel and Popped a beer in my room, then channel surfed the TV
0400: Lights out. Damm, forgot the "Do Not Distrub" sign. Sorted that z's time

Are you planning to deploy Microsoft® Exchange Server 2003? Are you concerned about availability, fault tolerance and performance? If so, it is critical that you understand how to optimize your storage system for Exchange Server 2003, regardless of the size of your organization.
Disk subsystem bottlenecks cause more performance problems than server-side CPU or RAM deficiencies, and a poorly designed disk subsystem can leave your organization vulnerable to hardware malfunctions. Specifically, your disk subsystem is performing poorly if it is experiencing:
- Average read and write latencies over 20 ms.
- Latency spikes over 50 ms that last for more than a few seconds.
High disk latency is synonymous with slow performance. To reduce costly disk latency issues, at a minimum, you should:
- Invest in high performance disks and spindles.
- Consider performance before capacity.
- Align your disks by using DiskPar.
All of these topics are discussed in this guide. In general, to optimize your storage system and avoid high disk latency issues, you need to understand:
- The causes of Exchange disk I/O.
- How to calculate your disk I/O requirements.
- How to optimize your specific storage architecture.
- How to verify the performance of your storage system.
So, I have never in my life written a diary before, so lets see how this goes and I we will see if I get bored with it.
So the plan is a 1330 flight from London to Chennai, and then a domestic flight down to Bangalore
1130: And we are off to the airport, a couple of hours early so I can take full advantage of the duty free. Before hand I checked in online and picked a nice seat up at the back of the 747. So I try my luck at the check in desk and as for an upgrade [If you don’t ask, you don’t get - I asked to go to Bangalore and now look at me], but I'm told the plane is not full so the lady check in ask if I would like an aisle seat by an exit (humm more leg room) so I take it!
1300: The gate is up for BA35 (#11) but I don’t see a plane - this could be interesting!
1315: A 747 pulls up at Gate 11, but no one get off :-| Surely it should have been some time ago. Wonder if they are going to tell us what the delay is
1330: At last an announcement that they are running late (you don’t say I worked that one out already!) Wonder if I'm going to make my connection? Playing with my SPV c500 - I like the caller id photo feature, wonder if I can find out what is on the mini-sd card
1343: I see that a Seattle flight is getting ready at gate 12, time checkout the faces and see if I recognise anyone - Isn't it funny you can spot an American in a crowd. Lot of announcements asking for people who are now delaying different flight from taking off. I don't understand how people can check in, go through security and be so late for a flight. The girl next to me has gone into one, she says that the dodgy looking guys that just sped past us with a trolley full of bags, dark shades and a hat is from Guns n roses ...
1348: Boarding at last – Yippee – followed by an apology for the short delay. Well we should have left 18 mins a go and they normally leave 30mins for boarding, so since when is 48mins a “short” delay! It also makes me laugh at the way people rush to board the plane – what the rush, we all have a seat and they are not going to leave until everyone is on!
1411: On board at last – The plane is damm hot!
1445: The plane is still at the gate, but now we have lost our take off slot time
1455: 17mins to take off (yeah right) – so that must be about 1 hour late in real money – I could have spent that extra hour with my wife or shopping. Still no explanation why the plane is late or why the plane is still damm hot
1520: Take off! I still find it amazing how something the size of a 747 can actually take off. Mentioned to the stewardess that I have a connection, and doesn’t think I will make it … great! A few of the movies look interesting [Harry potter, Troy and a film with Denzil Washington(Man on Fire)]. Should keep me occupied
1619: Captain come over the intercom, says they are putting the pedal to the metal and we should only be 15 min late
1720: Food up, chicken with pasta – not bad at all, wasted down with a couple of mini bottle of red wine
1830: Harry Potter is over – time for some z’s
1905: Nice one, the guy next to me scares the living day lights out of me with a nudge in the ribs and wake me up. May as well watch troy now. [Note to self: Wonder what Teresa is up to now, she is supposed to be out with the girls up town … missing her already]
1930: Need to find out where Troy is in present day Greece
2145: Next snack, just a hot cheese & tomato roll
2230: 40 mins to go
2330: Touch down – 1 hour late at it’s now 5am local time, my flight is at 620am
0000: Mad rush to the domestic terminal (only 500m or so away) and my first view of India in the flesh. – They seem to follow paper trails, you go from one person to another giving bit of paper for different things (like a challenger stage) Called Teresa to let her know I was safe & found and then
0620 Local time: Off on time – this a 22 min flight!
0755 Local time: I turn up at the hotel and into room 216. Un pack and try can catch some z’s
1000 Local time: Ding dong, some one rings my door bell – Thanks for waking me up! Can't you read the "DO NOT DISTURB" sign!
1300 Local time: Showered and time for a walk and smoke around the block.
It is not what I expected. Bangalore seems similar to KL, most notable the motorbikes and motor rickshaws and excessive use of the horn. What is different is that I stick out like a sore thumb, white man walking the streets smoking a cigar. Get a bit of interest from the street beggars, and rickshaw drivers, but they are harmless.
1552 Local Time: Get a one hour wireless package for 150 so time to upload this doc, do some blogging and checking my email
1630 Local Time: Damm just found out that I'm working nights this week - Getting picked up at 1700 tomorrow night, which is a bit of a pain in the butt, as I'm going to have try and saw awake as long as possible and get up as late as I can!
I wonder if you need to install Windows Sharepoint Service Pack 1 too? As SPS used WSS?

SYMPTOMS
After you move a user's mailbox to a different Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server mailbox server, that user experiences both of the following symptoms:
- When the user accesses this mailbox by using a new Outlook profile the first time after the mailbox is moved, the mailbox display name that appears in the folder list appears correctly. For example, outlook:today (Mailbox - UserName) appears in the folder list.
- When the user later accesses this mailbox by using the same Outlook profile, the mailbox display name no longer appears correctly. In this scenario, "Mailbox" does not appear in the mailbox display name. For example, outlook:today (UserName) appears in the folder list.
CAUSE
This problem occurs if all the following conditions are true:
In this scenario, after you configure localization for the user's mailbox by applying the 810326 hotfix, when the user first logs on by using a new Outlook profile, Outlook automatically adds the word "Mailbox" to the mailbox display name. Additionally, Outlook populates a registry value for that user's profile with this mailbox display name information. When Outlook successfully logs on to the mailbox for the first time, Outlook retrieves the mailbox display name from the Exchange 2000 computer and overwrites the user's profile information with the information that Outlook receives from the Exchange 2000 computer. This problem occurs because the Exchange 2000 computer does not have the word "Mailbox" in the mailbox display name.
