As the first Latina president of the National Association of Hispanic Publications, Lupita Colmenero opened doors for changes to the Washington, D.C.-based organization. She will pass the reins to another Hispanic publisher at the 22nd annual National Convention, taking place April 11-15 in Scottsdale, Ariz., and rededicate herself 100 percent to her own paper, "El Hispano News," in Dallas.

It's been only a year, though, since Alex Pels was appointed general manager of the Los Angeles-based channel and charged with reinvigorating the network.
