'IDOL' PSYCHICS

Song selection is so important, we've been told by the
judges on "American Idol." Those words will certainly be applicable tonight at
8 on Fox/5 when the final three contestants - Melinda Doolittle, Blake Lewis
and Jordin Sparks - each perform three songs - one selected by the judges, one
by music producer Clive Davis and a pick of their own. Here are our picks to go
home tomorrow. Lowest number of votes: Blake Lewis. First the judges praise his
originality by beat-boxing to "You Give Love a Bad Name" two weeks ago, then
attack him for doing more beat-boxing to The Bee Gees last week. The
combination of Melinda Doolittle being the recipient of votes from LaKisha
Jones' fans and Blake's inability to think outside of the beat-box could mean
he's a beaten man. -Daniel Bubbeo
Lowest number of votes: Melinda Doolittle. No one has to convince us that
Melinda has the best voice and phrasing of the three remaining finalists.
Unfortunately, she's missing the huge fan bases of her co-contestants. She'll
have to strongly convey to her supporters the sentiment of the song that judge
Randy Jackson chose for her to sing tonight - "I Believe in You and Me" - while
trusting in the lyric: "I believe in miracles." She'll need one to survive. -
