Schools Marketing Items: Schools Marketing Newsletter - September 2003

Welcome to the second volume of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee Schools Marketing Newsletter! The goal of this newsletter is to share practical ideas that can be implemented within your respective school communities and to share information about the archdiocesan collaborative Catholic Schools marketing campaign. Hopefully the ideas and recommendations shared in this newsletter will help you attract families to your school community and enhance your school community.

LET'S COMMUNICATE! WORKSHOPS
The archdiocesan communication office is offering workshops in the Let's Communicate! Series. Two workshops address the topic of school recruitment and will be held in early October and early November. For more information, visit http://www.archmil.org/aboutus/dept.asp?ID=31&which;=Events.

CATHOLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS POSTER
Each elementary school will be receiving three posters to help promote Catholic Schools. Please be sure to have one prominently displayed in your parish. There is room on the bottom of the poster to advertise your Open House when that time approaches.

CATHOLIC SECONDARY SCHOOLS POSTER
Elementary schools also will receive a poster promoting our Catholic secondary schools. Please display this poster in an area frequented by middle school students. Sharing information about our high schools is important to strengthening the bond between our elementary and secondary schools.

HIGH SCHOOL OPEN HOUSE SEASON APPROACHING
The high school open house season is quickly coming upon us. We are preparing a flyer with the dates and times of the open houses. This flyer will be distributed electronically later this week. On behalf of our Catholic high school staffs, we appreciate your cooperation sharing this information with parents of middle school students.

"A CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL EDUCATION: THE GIFT FOR A LIFETIME"
We are pleased to announce the "A Catholic High School Education: The Gift for a Lifetime" program on October 30. The event will begin at 7 p.m., at the Archbishop Cousins Catholic Center, 3501 S. Lake Dr.

The program has been designed to help parents of middle-school students understand the importance of a Catholic secondary education. John Findlater, an educational consultant to Catholic schools and parishes throughout the United States, will share the importance of a Gospel-centered mission found in Catholic schools. Mr. Findlater will discuss how a Catholic high school education can have a positive impact throughout a child's life. Part of Mr. Findlater's presentation will address the importance of parents supporting and reinforcing what their children learn in school.

Following Mr. Findlater's presentation, parents will be able to visit a High School Showcase with representatives from the 13 Catholic high schools in the 10-county Archdiocese of Milwaukee. Parents can learn more about the terrific things that are happening in Catholic high schools in southeastern Wisconsin.

Elementary school principals will be receiving a flyer with more information. Please distribute this to parents with students in middle school grades.

INFORMATION IN YOUR PARISH BULLETIN
Remember that your parish bulletin is a terrific way of sharing the news about all of the wonderful things that are happening in your school community. Work with your parish secretary or bulletin editor to establish a schedule and routine for submitting information, so parishioners are updated on a weekly basis.

YOUR SCHOOL LISTING ON THE ARCHDIOCESAN WEB SITE
Each school is listed on www.archmil.org – the archdiocesan web site. Schools have the ability to post the following type of information – principal's message, mission statement, school policies, admissions, academics, activities, general info, driving directions, and staff directory. Changes to this information can be made by the school's web administrator. Please take the time to review the current information to determine if it is still accurate.

NEWS AND EVENTS ON WWW.ARCHMIL.ORG
In addition to the details about your school community, you also can post your news and events on the archdiocesan web site. The web administrator also has the ability to post this information. The archdiocesan web site is a great publicity tool for sharing information about your school community.

ENTERING MIDDLE SCHOOL NAMES IN THE EXTRANET
Each year, archdiocesan staff members ask our elementary school personnel to enter names and addresses of fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grade students. This data is used by our Catholic high school staff members in recruitment efforts. Staff members at our 13 Catholic secondary schools rely on this important information to communicate with these students and their parents as they begin to make decisions about high school selection. The ability to send information to the students and parents is vital to the recruitment efforts of our high schools. Our high schools support the efforts of the collaborative marketing campaign by contributing to the campaign. It is important to support them in return.

After the students' names have been entered into the Extranet, the project becomes one of maintenance. Each year you will only have to enter the names of next year's fifth graders and any new middle school students, and make mailing address changes.

If you have any questions about the technical aspect of entering names into the Extranet, please contact Mark Barthel (barthelm@archmil.org, (414-769-3454) in our Information Systems Office.

Please contact Kathleen Hohl (hohlk@archmil.org, 414-769-3494) if you would like to discuss the importance of entering the names of your middle school students into our system.

WHO RECEIVES THIS NEWSLETTER?B Elementary and secondary school presidents and principals, CSDA members, and volunteers who are involved in marketing, recruiting, and public relations receive this electronic newsletter.
