Flash Flood WatchIssued by the National Weather Service at 2:47 PM EST on November 15, 2006
... Flash Flood Watch in effect from Thursday afternoon through late Thursday night...
The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a
* Flash Flood Watch for portions of northern Delaware... northeast Maryland... central New Jersey... northern New Jersey... southern New Jersey... east central Pennsylvania... northeast Pennsylvania and southeast Pennsylvania... including the following areas... in northern Delaware... New Castle in northeast Maryland... Cecil in central New Jersey... Mercer and western Monmouth in northern New Jersey... Hunterdon... Middlesex... Morris... Somerset... Sussex and Warren in southern New Jersey... Camden... Gloucester and northwestern Burlington in east central Pennsylvania... Berks... Lehigh and Northampton in northeast Pennsylvania... Carbon and Monroe in southeast Pennsylvania... Bucks... Chester... Delaware... Montgomery and Philadelphia.
* From Thursday afternoon through late Thursday night
* low pressure over the lower Mississippi River valley late this afternoon will lift through the Great Lakes region and into southeast Canada by late Thursday night. The low will pull a dynamic cold front across our region on Thursday night. It will result in rain... possible thunderstorms and associated winds.
* Over eastern Pennsylvania... much of New Jersey... northern Delaware and the northern Maryland eastern... widespread one to two inch rainfall is forecast... and up to three inches of rain is possible where any thunderstorms might develop. Heavy rain is expected to begin late Thursday afternoon and continue through midnight. Given the saturated state of the ground... these amounts could result in flooding of streams... creeks and poor drainage areas and could also result in sudden flooding of areas not normally prone to flooding.
* Winds with the front are forecast to range between 15 and 25 mph with gusts up to around 35 mph. However... if thunderstorms do develop and cause winds aloft to mix to the surface... stronger wind gusts that could fell trees and lead to scattered power outages are possible.
A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions are favorable for heavy rain across the watch area... which may lead to flooding along streams... creeks... areas of poor drainage and some areas not normally prone to flooding. If you are in the watch area... check your preparedness requirements. Keep informed... and be ready for action if flooding is observed or if a Flood Warning is issued.
