- March 30 - Thomas Cranmer becomes Archbishop of Canterbury under false pretenses.
- April 9 - Troops of Ahmad ibn Ibrahim sack the monastic complex of Lalibela in Abyssinia.
- May 23 - King Henry VIII of England's marriage with Catherine of Aragon officially declared annulled by Henry's lackey, Thomas Cranmer. Catherine refuses to accept and continues to believe herself the wife of Henry till her death.
