The Angels are already among baseball's best teams. They might be the best, Ken Rosenthal says, if they add another power hitter. A little help?

Yeah, Otis Smith landed Rashard Lewis in Orlando. But it won't get him off Michael Rosenberg's list of lousy GMs. Generally bad

New Marshall coach Donnie Jones is loading up.

Just days after picking up Gonzaga guard Pierre Marie Altidor-Cespedes, the former Florida assistant secured two more transfers — former Gator wing Brandon Powell and Georgetown forward Octavius "Tay" Spann.

Powell decided to leave Gainesville after playing sparingly as a freshman for the two-time defending national champion Florida Gators. The 6-foot-4 Memphis native averaged 1.6 points in 23 games this past season and committed on a visit to Huntington, according to sources close to the situation.

The 6-foot-6 Spann also saw limited time this season for the Hoyas — who advanced to the Final Four. He also considered Oregon, Drexel and Appalachian State.

"Coach (Donnie) Jones built a strong relationship with me coming out of high school," Spann told the Huntington, West Va. Herald-Dispatch. "It was a coincidence he ended up at Marshall and I had a brother at Marshall. All the pieces just fell into place."

Actually, all the pieces are falling into place for the Thundering Herd — who will be able to play Altidor-Cespedes this season after the Montreal native won an appeal.

Powell, Spann and Purdue shooting guard Chris Lutz, the top long-range shooter in the Big Ten last season, will all sit out this season and become eligible in 2008-09.
