Why is it important for each person to have an individual e-mail address?

Electronic communication is here to stay. In the late 1990s it may have been thought a luxury for each parish and school employee to have an individual e-mail address, but that is no longer the case. E-mail communication has become as essential a method for professional information-sharing as is the telephone.
