Chinese Academy of Social Sciences

The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (simplified Chinese: 中国社会科学院; traditional Chinese: 中國社會科學院; pinyin: Zhōngguó Shèhuì Kēxuéyuàn) is the national academy of the People's Republic of China for the social sciences in Beijing. It is an institution of the State Council of China. It was founded in May of 1977 growing out of the Department of Philosophy and Social Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The first president was Hu Qiaomu, who held his position until his death, and the present president is Professor Chen Kuiyuan.
