NiGHTS flies again on Wii

Sega confirms Journey of Dreams, first sequel to the critically acclaimed Saturn game set for Nintendo's new console.
By Brendan Sinclair, GameSpot
Posted Apr 2, 2007 11:07 am PT

After more than a decade of fans calling for a follow-up, the Sega Saturn action game NiGHTS Into Dreams is finally spawning a sequel. While the sequel was hinted at by a UK magazine last month, Sega would not officially confirm that the game was in development until today's announcement of NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams for the Wii.

Players will once again take control of the eponymous flying jester, and once again the series will make use of the latest controller interface advances. Where the original Saturn game came with one of the first analog-equipped game pads, Journey of Dreams is being designed to take advantage of the Wii Remote's motion-sensing capabilities. The game's story, which Sega has said will center on themes of hope, courage, and inspiration, has players defending the world of Nightopia from the neighboring world of Nightmare.

According to the game's new Web site, Journey of Dreams will include support for two players when it releases this fall. NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams has not yet been rated.

I know I might get killed here, but I didn't like NiGHTS... Ok, let me explain. I had never had a Saturn back in its day, I bought one in 2003, when I decided to become a collector and only played NiGHTS in 2004, for about 30 min and got tired of it.

Maybe I'll try again someday with an open mind (honestly, I have lots of Saturn games and never played any of them for over 1h), and maybe I'll come to like it, but maybe I'll always think that NiGHTS is boring, who knows?

iv'e learned alittle of this 'NiGHTS' game everyone talks about, they absolutly can't get enough, apparently after reading about 10 reviews i see it here to, when it comes out i'll rent it, f its good i will agree with you, but i NEVER had a genesis OR satern (in fact iv'e never seen so much as a picture of a saturn ) therefor i haven't played the orginal.
but if it's even a quarter as good as everyone raves about, i'll bite.

My Dreams have come true! I thought this was another April Fools Joke, but it's true! There is a god!

Now, if they could get Camelot's help and build a respectable Shining Force game, then most (I said MOST, not all) of Sega's crappy games would be forgiven.

I remember this game. I wanted it so badly for the DC. This is great it's coming out for the Wii. Too bad the website doesn't have any pics or relevant updates. Looking forward to the graphics and overall gameplay...

Now if we can just get the first one on Virtual Console, either as a download or a second run of the disc with the Saturn emulator on Wii Ware.

Everyone is having a go at Sonic Team. It's not cool! They make good games.

They just have trouble with camera angles/positions/controls.

I never owned a Sega Saturn, so I never got a chance to play NiGHTS even though I always wanted to. I can't wait to get my hands on this game, I just hope that they'll release the original on the VC so that I can play the original before the sequel.

I wouldn't worry Mr Grimbee, they've held off making a sequel for soo long in fear of getting it wrong, I don't think (i.e. hope) they'll avoid doing a Sonic.

But after Wild fire and Monkey Ball, I think its safe to say that Sega know how to use the Wii.

Nights is NOT a "shooter"!! You don't ever shoot anything! you FLY!

It's what made the original so great in the first place, there was nothing like it.
Even if they remade the original, this would be a winner. The gameplay of the original was just so replayable. Great stuff.

I hope, for the sake of sega that its not like sonic on the 360 and ps3... boy that game is baaaaaad (as in, craaaaaaaaap).

This game better be good!!!!!!!!!

Interesting, but with how Sega has been making games lately I doubt it will be any good. The whole company has just gone downhill after the Dreamcast failed.

Yuji Naka himself said he had canned plans on a NiGHTS 2 because there was no way he could improve upon it except for a graphical update. Even with Wii controls, I believe him, and if I recall Naka has absolutely nothing to do with this game.

I'll be hoping for something even half as good as the original, but sadly I have a feeling it will be anything but amazing.

R.I.P. NiGHTS.

It seems to have become a trendy thing to hate on anything pertaining to Sonic these days...now that just isn't fair. I have cautious optimism for this title.

.... i'm pretty sure they didn't mean "shooter"' as a shooter type game...

anyway.

The guy who directed sonic heroes is directing this game as well... if he screws it up i'll be soo pissed! But i also heard he made the first one as well... hmm.

Finally, its been so long, I wonder if they are going to keep the theme song. Now Sega just needs to do follow ups to Skies of Arcadia and Legend of Oasis.
