Welcome to the DFG
The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Foundation)
is the central, self-governing research funding organisation
that promotes research at universities and other publicly
financed research institutions in Germany.
The DFG serves all branches of science and the humanities
by funding research projects and facilitating cooperation
among researchers.
Fourth EURYI Award Brings Four Top Researchers to Germany
(1 August 07) The fourth round of the European Young Investigator (EURYI) Award has once again shown how attractive Germany is for young scientists from all over the world. As in the previous year, four of the recipients will carry out their research at German institutions over the next five years. Two of them were previously based in the USA, the other two in Switzerland. All four had applied through the DFG. The prize will be awarded to a total of 20 young researchers.
Sixth Annual Emmy Noether Meeting in Potsdam
(26 July 07) The compatibility of family and a career in science took centre stage at the sixth annual meeting of young researchers who are funded by the DFG as part of the Emmy Noether Programme. At the three-day meeting in Potsdam, from 13 to 15 July, approximately 150 participants discussed together, and with representatives from the DFG and other scientific institutions, how the often conflicting spheres of career and family can be better combined.
DFG Establishes Six New Clinical Research Units
(20 July 07) From Alzheimer’s disease to colorectal cancer to Wegener’s granulomatosis, the DFG promotes understanding of a range of illnesses by establishing six new Clinical Research Units. In each project, clinical practice, applied research and basic research will be closely interlinked at a high level, as has become the hallmark of the DFG’s Clinical Research Units. The six new units will also enable medical departments to sharpen their research profiles, and they will improve training conditions for young researchers.
