Criteria for Charities in the JustGive
Guide
There are currently over 1,000,000 charities registered with
the IRS. Because this can be daunting for donors, we created the JustGive
Guide, which contains over 1,000 charities in 19 categories who
meet the following criteria. We are not currently accepting new inclusions
for the JustGive Guide.
- Charities in
the Guide must meet the following financial criteria:
- Be
incorporated in the United States
- Have IRS 501(c)(3) status
- File a Form 990
- Be
registered to fundraise
- Make current financial statement available to the public
- Have
a mission that is national in scope or nationally recognized
- Charities must be in good standing with the government agencies
that monitor charities, such as the State Attorneys General,
the National Charities Information Bureau, and the Philanthropic
Advisory Service of the Better Business Bureau.
- Charities who have received funding from the top 100 foundations
generally have to go through extensive reviews of their programs
and financials. We examine the grant recipients based on this
process.
- Charities must have reasonable fundraising and administrative
costs.
- Charities are also recommened by experts that review organizations
in specific areas.
A FINAL NOTE: The JustGive Guide will continue to grow as more
leading charities are screened.
