Resources: Organizational Development Tools

Internal strength is crucial

Community-based organizations fighting for access to housing, better jobs, economic development, and a voice in their neighborhoods have enough struggles to face: it's critical that they have strong organizations that can withstand the pressures of working for change. Building a strong organization means more than finding a great staff person; more than building an active Board of Directors; even more than raising lots of money. Strong organizations have all these things and more. They have a spirit of energy and openness. They have the ability to withstand conflict – both internal and external. They have the power to endure.

The Center for Community Change is about helping to build strong organizations. Our technical assistance and training programs can help provide groups with the skills and techniques that will take them in the directions they want to go.

There are many tools that we use – and that you can use – to learn about the building blocks for strong organizations. Some of them are included on this site as a way to help you in your work. Whether it’s learning about fundraising strategies, developing job descriptions for your Board of Directors, or developing a good meeting agenda, these materials are designed to be helpful.
