Spotlight Summary

Overview & Objectives
The presentation is designed for educators who want to improve their efficiency and effectiveness at creating WebQuests, and for those who teach and support teachers in adopting the WebQuest model. Participants will acquire a deeper understanding of the bottlenecks that impede the adoption of WebQuests (and other constructivist uses of the web) as well as a concrete set of actions they can take to overcome these obstacles. These include techniques for improving skills at finding resources, using cooperative learning, and reducing the technical knowledge hurdles through use of online authoring environments or use of alternative media to deliver WebQuests using familiar applications.

Outline
10 minutes: What's the problem? Does it involve deficiencies in skills, knowledge or the environment?
10 minutes: Pedagogical knowledge gaps: How to become a more comfortable constructivist. (e.g. improving knowledge of cooperative learning techniques; using existing WebQuests before creating your own)
20 minutes: Technology knowledge gaps: (e.g., becoming a more efficient finder of online resources; using students as helpers; creating WebQuests with familiar applications like Word or Powerpoint, using online authoring tools and services)
10 minutes: Q&A;
