The latest feature of Gametrailers.com is our platform customizable RSS feeds. We have a feed for every platform as well as for Nintendo and Sony products, so whatever your site covers, we do too. The current feeds available are:

  • Newest Trailers (the last 20 trailers added to our site)
  • Top 20 (sorted by downloads this week)
  • Top Rated (rated by GT.com users)
  • if you would like a custom feed, please contact webmaster@gametrailers.com

Like most RSS 2.0 feeds, our feed holds the standard Title, Link, and Description elements for regular RSS parsers. However, Gametrailers.com wants you to have the same abilities we do to deliver media, so we're also packaging extending information through the namespace exInfo. Here we will go through each element and describe what it means:

  • pubDate: This is the time at which the media was added. (ex. "Sat, 29 Jan 2005 21:19:11 EST")

  • guid: This is our internal movie id for the media. RSS parser use this field to mark items as "read" or "new"

  • exInfo:movieTitle: This is the title we've assigned to the media. (ex. "Trailer 3")

  • exInfo:gameName: This is the name of the game the media is attached to. This name has been shortened to fit space restrictions, so may not match other references. (ex. "Worms 4")

  • exInfo:gameID: This is the unique ID assigned to the game the media is attached to.

  • exInfo:gameURL: This URL points to the Gametrailers.com gamepage for the game the media is attached to.

  • title: This is the item name which is the "[GAME NAME] - [MOVIE TITLE]"

  • exInfo:platform: For each platform that applies to the media, there is a platform tag (ex. "pc" OR "ps2")

  • exInfo:fileType: For each media type (quicktime and windows media are most common), there is a fileType tag.

    • type: This is the extension of the fileType. (ex. "mov" for Quicktime movies)

    • fileSize: This is the size of the media reported in Bytes.

    • link: This URL is the link to the media in this format.

  • exInfo:image: This URL points to the thumbnail image for the media (size: 178x74)

  • link: This URL points to the media with default settings for format type.

  • description: This describes the media.

Now you know what our RSS feed offers content-wise, but often webmasters do not know how to parse the RSS feed themselves. This is a difficult process and in response, we have created a tutorial for anyone who would like to use our feeds here. While it is not required, we request that you somehow brand the information that you pull from our site. Simply a line that says, "Content Provided by Gametrailers.com" will go a long way to helping us continue to serve you the best media on the internet.

If you have any problems or questions, please direct them to webmaster@gametrailers.com and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.

Thanks,
The Gametrailers.com Staff
