Jainism joins Singapore's inter-faith fold
Jainism has become the tenth religion to join Singapore's inter-faith fold.

Nirvana
The ultimate objective of Mahavir's teaching is the attainment of total freedom from the cycle of birth, life, pain, misery, and death.

A Way To Cleanse
Like Buddhism and Yoga-Sankhya philosophy propagated by Maharishi Patanjali, Jainism is a non-theistic system of philosophical thought and religious belief.

Jainism - Origin And History
Jainism is one of the ancient Indian religious traditions still in existence. The first Tirthankar, Rsabha, is the original founder of Jainism, but very little is known of him.

The Essence
Jain philosophy divides the universe into two independent categories - soul or living substance (Jiva), which is present in natural forces such as wind and fire as well as plants.

Places Of Worship
The Jains build Stupas in honor of their saints. Jain temples have metal images of various types and metal plaques depicting auspicious symbols.

Philosophy
The ultimate purpose of life and activity is to achieve the state of one's true being. True philosophy in Jainism should result in removing all bondage (karma) in the process of purification of the soul.

Literature
Digambaras have two holy works in Prakrit - the Karmaprabhrta (Chapters on Karma) and the Kasayaprabhrta (Chapters on Kasayas).

Festivals
The most popular Jain festival is Paryushana in the month of Bhadrapad (August-September). Twice in a year, for nine days, a fasting ceremony called Oli is observed by the Jains.

Sects
There are four groups of lesser gods -Bhavanavasis (gods of the house), Vyantaras (intermediaries)...
