For three weeks, Nintendo will make available Japan-only classics on the European Virtual Console starting from today.
Log into the Wii Shop this morning and you'll find the original Japanese Super Mario Bros. 2: The Lost Levels (only released here on the enhanced Super Mario Allstars compilation on SNES), and Mario's Super Picross. Download Mario 2 quick though, because Nintendo's ripping it off the VC on September 30.
Next week we'll get NES (or Famicom) action games Ninja JaJaMaru-Kun and Ninja Gaiden (US version, for English text), which is brilliant.
The third and last week is best though - Gradius III (SNES) and, ready for it... Sin and Punishment! For those of you that haven't been going mental about Sin for VC for the past year, it's an awesome N64 on-rails shooter, a bit like Star Fox but on foot.

Nintendo is calling the three special updates the "Hanabi Festival", named after the Japanese holiday season famous for its firework displays.
There's one catch though - they're all going to cost 100 points more than usual. So that's 600 Wii Points (£4.50) for the NES games, 900 (£6.75) for the SNES games, and Sin and Punishment will be 1100 (£8.25).
