The Reservation Debate

It is ironic, that in a decade marked by technological advances and the acceptance of India as a future global power, its government has, through the stroke of a pen made a decision which will in all probability permanently scar the educational system. The debates and animated discussions this has given birth to are common news – protest marches by students from all over the country, work strikes in their respective domains, hunger strikes by yet others – the list is appended to every day. If these reactions are anything to go by, the populace to be affected the most by this has almost risen up in arms against the government – or as much as is possible without breaking the barriers of law. The few dissenting voices seem to be succumbing to whatever blight it is that blots out all rationale in politicians – especially when it comes to socially sensitive decisions which have the potential to break or make a million futures.
