Dolmens Are a Girls Best Friend

I also visited Cappakennedy, I only saw it when I was in the ringfort below it and the sun was shining brightly on the white stones, it is a fantastic wedgetomb, a killer to get there as the underground is very treacherous with grykes , if you walk on for about 300 yards you arrive by a fine cairn, unfortunately ruined by modern man, a recent pillar of stone is cemented on it, a pity, good views from the cairn.

Near Cappakennedy , about twenty yards is another ruined wedgetomb, it sits in a field with a lot of visible limestone, only the site slab is still standing, but nevertheless a feast for the eyes, the whole area is full of surprises,

Very impressed with website. I have spent may years trekking in the Burren and have vistied all but a few of the megalithic tombs in my travels including discovering 5 possible Wedgetomb / court cairn sites. I not that you have not catalogued Cappakennedy Wedgetomb near Carran. This is a remarkable hill top tomb in excellent condition and well worth a visit. Nearby is Mohernacartun or Cahermore which overlooks the legendary valley below Slievenaglasa known for the magic cow called "Glas" and Lon the Smith. Just east of here is the Burren's newest relic "father teds house".

I visited the Drumlohan Stones this summer. Your site helped a lot. When I talked to the farmer who owned the land to thank him, he took me to a beehive on more of his property across and down the street. I wouldn't go to it without him helping--it was kind of hard to get to. Plus, if you fell in, it'd take a while for someone to find you. The farmer was a really nice guy and very interested in the history behind his land. The next time you go, you should try to find him. Thanks for keeping up such a great site!

Thanks for sharing your wonderful photos. The site is eminently searchable and draws you in.... I've now got some additional stop off's enroute to Donegal this weekend :-)

I haven\\\'t visited Megalithomania in months.

I love the new site.

Thank you for the blogs.

I\\\'m looking to Megalithomania for ideas for my 50th birthday party. Visiting several megaliths is on the agenda.

@David Williams:

Thanks for your hint, this works great!
It's even easier if you DOWNLOAD (!) the 2 .kmz files from the Google Earth Support page here and unpack them (rename them to .zip). Then you have the FULL .kml files which you now can convert using GPSBabel+ :)

FINALLY I got this GREAT data into my GPS...!! :D

Hi Tom,
your websites is unvaluable for planning our trips in Ireland. We now have a new long list of places and sites to visit during our next holiday from next week.
I'm afraid I can't find the wap utility any longer... did you disable it? So bad, right now that I learned to use wap services with my mobile phone...
Hope to meet you somewhere in the next days!

Hi Tom,

Thank you for such a wonderful site. I was looking for megaliths to see when I visit ireland next month and I couldn't do better than to find this site.
Your website is clearly a labour of love and your enthusiasm for these sites is contagious.

Thanks again and i can't wait to see if they are as awe inspiring in person as they are in your photos.

For Pa9an, here's how i loaded Tom's sites into my GPS:

1. I followed Tom's instructions on how to view his sites in Google Earth.

2. Every site that I was interested in, I selected and used the "save as" feature in Google Earth to save as a .kml file.

3. With GPSBabel+, I loaded the .kml files as POIs in my Garmin. Works like a champ.

Hi Tom, Greetings from Sydney.
We used your site extensively prior to spending nearly four months in Ireland last year and found it invaluable. Your wealth of knowledge and information made is much easier for us to find the hundreds of monuments we visited. Our next visit is not until 2009 but we are watching the redevelopment of your site with interest. We check in about once a fortnight to see where you have been and are always pleased when we can say "we've been there".
