The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Foundation) is the central, self-governing research funding organisation that promotes research at universities and other publicly financed research institutions in Germany.

The DFG serves all branches of science and the humanities by funding research projects and facilitating cooperation among researchers.

Farewell Ceremony Marks Grunwald’s Retirement

(07 September 07) A farewell ceremony held at the Redoute in Bonn on Monday marked the retirement of the long-serving Secretary General of the DFG, Dr. Reinhard Grunwald. Politicians and scientists paid tribute to his achievements.


Fourth EURYI Award Brings Four Top Researchers to Germany

(1 August 07) The fourth round of the European Young Investigator (EURYI) Award has once again shown how attractive Germany is for young scientists from all over the world. As in the previous year, four of the recipients will carry out their research at German institutions over the next five years. Two of them were previously based in the USA, the other two in Switzerland. All four had applied through the DFG. The prize will be awarded to a total of 20 young researchers.


Sixth Annual Emmy Noether Meeting in Potsdam

(26 July 07) The compatibility of family and a career in science took centre stage at the sixth annual meeting of young researchers who are funded by the DFG as part of the Emmy Noether Programme. At the three-day meeting in Potsdam, from 13 to 15 July, approximately 150 participants discussed together, and with representatives from the DFG and other scientific institutions, how the often conflicting spheres of career and family can be better combined.
