HANDLEY PAGE HP.42 - Seven of these four-engined biplane transports were in service with Imperial Airways in September 1939, comprising three 38-passenger Handley Page HP.42Ws in the UK and four 24-seat HP.42Es in the Middle East. The Handley Page HP.42Ws, with 580 hp Jupiter XFBM engines, served with National Air Communications for a few months but were soon lost in accidents; three Handley Page HP.42Es, with 550 hp Jupiter XIFs, returned to UK and were impressed for RAF service (as AS981-AS983) but none survived into 1941.
